3DRealms closes, Take-Two keeps hold of Nukem

3DRealms has closed, according to numerous reports, thanks to a lack of funding.
“It’s not a marketing thing,” said company webmaster webmaster Joe Siegler.
“It’s true. I have nothing further to say at this time.”
Take-Two issued a statement overnight, saying it’s retained the rights to Duke Nukem Forever.
“We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title,” said comms VP Alan Lewis.
“In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever.”
Apogee Software and Deep Silver have confirmed that the closure has not affected Frontline Games’ upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy.
“Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms,” said a rep.
“Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned.”
No senior 3DRealms staffers have yet to make a statement.
It really was “forever,” then. Shacknews has the fullest report on this.

Suddenly I’m reminded of this.
Which, for my money, is the most entertaining Duke Nukem related media I’ve seen in years.
Damn, that woman’s got a mouth on her!

I’d love to read a postmortem on all this. How can you not finish a game in 12 years.

Wow though I’m sorta surprised they lasted this long they haven’t really been putting out much in the way of games in general (not just Duke).

Words cannot express… i was *so sure* that DN4 would see the light of day. I guess I was a huge fan of the character and a big believer than 3D Realms could still display some of their old magic. I’m proiperly gutted about this.
I just hope that George Brossard sees fit to release something – anything! – from the game to the community as a fan service, like screens of a trailer or something.

Words cannot express… I was *so* completely not bothered for this.
it would have turned out to be a piece of shit, so lets save the crying for when another much better game gets canned. I only feel sorry for the people who were working on it losing their jobs.

If I was the IP owner I’d be instructing lawyers to sue the “developers” who have been payed for over ten years during which time they delivered fuck all.
