Rumour – Pokémon Silver and Gold to get remakes

Nintendo may be gearing up to announce Pokémon Gold and Silver remakes, according to this Serebii report.
The titles are thought to be heading for an announcement on the Japanese Pokémon Variety Show.
The belief’s spurred on by the fact that new merchandise featuring the Johto Region starter Pokémon is being manufactured.

What was the last new Pokemon game? They certainly know how to milk the franchise.

I can’t really understand the point in this (other than that Nintendo will make more money of course). Were the Gold and Silver editions considered particularly good in the conext of the series or something?

There’s new games coming out regular.
The last “proper” Pokemon game was late 2006 though.
And of course they’re going to milk it. Why wouldn’t they? They still sell by the bucketload.

@Aretak The Gold and Silver versions of the game were the second Generation: The Johto region. You could go back to the Kanto region (the original one featured in Red, Blue and Yellow) and conquer that as well.
It had all sorts that were new. Day/Time specific events, breeding, more Pokémon (251 at this point) than the first versions, and it was in genuine colour.
However, the drawback was that it required a battery to keep the time and what day it was. We know for a fact that the DS has a calendar and clock in there, so this is no longer a problem. But with the Johto games, you lost your save when your battery died, and the only way to get saving working again was to open up the cartridge and replace the battery yourself.
