Velvet Assassin isn’t that great, say first reviews

The first reviews are in for SouthPeak’s Velvet Assassin, and it looks as though ze Var is over for real-life WWII spy Violette Summer.
Some new shots on Gamershell, if you’re still interested.

Well that was pretty obvious. You can tell the quality of most of these games within the first few seconds of watching the trailers.

Ouch.
A shame, ‘cos the idea was quite nice. But it looked shit when they showed it last year, I guess they didn’t manage to sort it out in the meantime.

Actually, Star Ocean’s on the ‘wait and see’ list. I might get it if it gets cheap enough, but it’s certainly off the ‘day one’ list.

Star Ocean 4 did nothing to warrant a “poor” score. from what I’ve heard it’s only cons are the plot and characters development. besides most reviews gave it a 7.5 or 8/10.

Its a JRPG the whole point is character and plot.

Seriously, absolutezero? I love JPRGS and find the characters and plot almost universally fucking rubbish and/or utterly generic and derivative. JRPGS are all about cute/cool graphics and trying to exploit the combat/levelling systems until they beg for mercy and puke in your lap, surely?

absolutezero – that’s your opinion. perhaps it will surprise you, but most of the PS1 Square (and Enix) titles were great both in gameplay and plot wise. the first two Shadow Hearts is another good example.
besides, in some of the tri-Ace rpgs (like Valkyrie Profile) the whole point is the gameplay.

Arnt all Square JRPG’s the same ever since they started making them?; Young guy goes out on adventure to save the land, meets female love interest who turns out to be a princess or the like, they are then joined by big strong guy, comic relief effeminate guy, extra female role, unhuman thing, and dark-stranger guy.

They’re being far too harsh on this game across the board. It’s an average game. Nothing more. Nothing less. It’s got fun. It’s got flaws.
These uppity reviewers need pickle-surgeons … or maybe just new jobs.

Well exactly the PS1 games had some great stories and some fun characters, like FF9 for example. Im not saying that its not possible now either, Dragon Quest 8 was amazing and the Persona titles are fantastic.
Star Ocean just looks like another horribly bland title and the fact that Star Ocean 3 was terrible does not bode well.

SO3 was actually a great game battles wise. plot wise it wasn’t bad, it just was more simple than it’s predecessors. they didn’t go into details like in Second Story, but it was still a nice storyline.
personally, I will play SO4 for it’s battles anyway. they’re still plenty of fun from what I’ve seen. though it’s a shame such a great series has an entry like this one.

btw, just noticed a new review for this game, from MS Xbox world:
http://www.msxbox-world.com/xbox360/reviews/review/356/Velvet-Assassin.html
they gave it a 7.5. lmao. I’m lost.

They almost have to give it a better score, its an exclusive. They can right out and give it a great score so it gets an average score..

it’s not quite exclusive, it’s for PC and 360.
