Gamestop boss: Wii cut may come to US, PS2 drop was too late

wiilogoa21

Gamestop CEO Dan DeMatteo has told CNBC that a Wii price cut may become inevitable in the US, thanks to dwindling demand.

“I think [demand for] the Wii could slow down to the extent that Nintendo may want to cut the price,” he said.

“Nintendo has it within its arsenal to do that. The component costs have come down considerably. They used to break even on the Wii, but now they’re making a considerable margin.”

Clearly having his console price cut head on today, the exec said the Sony’s recent PS2 price drop was too little, too late.

“To be honest, it really wasn’t worth doing,” he said.

“If they’d done it earlier, publishers probably would have kept making games for the PS2, but once they’ve stopped, they’ve stopped.”

God of War III CE survey hints at PS2 games on the disc

godofwariiia6

Sony’s put up a God of War III collector’s edition survey, including a question about including the previous two games on the PS3 title’s Blu-ray.

The inclusion of the PS2 titles would probably stamp another “must-own” logo on the game’s box, to go along with the other 20, so hit the link and tell Sony how great it’d be if they were there.

You need to be logged into you PSN account to take part. Finish it and you get an HD wallpaper.

Simpson’s creator trademarks Life in Hell series for possible videogame

lifeinhella

Last week, Matt Groening filed a trademark for a potential videogame based on his Life in Hell comic strip.

The creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, as Kotaku points out, is known to file trademarks for things he will never do. In other words, don’t hold your breath folks.

For those unfamiliar with the thirty-year old weekly comic strip, Life in Hell’s name was changed to Life in Swell in back in 2007, and stars a cranky rabbit named Binky, his ex, and an illegitimate son.

Would be one of the strangest games ever made, if we’re being honest.

Midway offers employee incentives if firm is sold for $30 million

midwaylogoa1

Midway is awaiting court approval to hand out monetary incentives from a pool containing up to $600,000 providing it can sell the company for $30 million, reports Gamasutra.

Two goals for the company include the $600,000 reward pool, the other to pay key personnel $1 million once the sale closes.

Midway determined these bonuses by “the level of payment that is necessary or appropriate to provide an economic incentive for each Participant to exert additional efforts beyond his/her normal duties on behalf of the Company.”

Virtua Tennis Wii to have online features and buttons are optional

virtuatennnisa

Sega said today that Virtua Tennis for Wii will have online modes just like the other versions, and, thanks to Wii MotionPlus, use of buttons is optional.

Which is the main reason Sega feels its tennis game will stand out from EA Grand Slam Tennis.

“I understand our competitors are using buttons?” said a Sega producer during a demo with Eurogamer.

Moreover, the game includes 100 percent of the content and modes included in the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions.

Game’s out in May. Thanks, GoNintendo.

Kojima “very interested” to work with western devs

kojima2

Hideo Kojima’s told Kikizo that he’s keen on collaborating with western development studios.

“I’m not sure when this will happen, but yes, I’m very interested,” he said.

“There are many development companies outside of Japan working with Konami, and I believe that they’re all special in some way; they have their unique points, and if we were to team up with them I wouldn’t dictate to them, ‘You should do things this way, use this color, change this.’

“I’d have to really try to help them do what they do best as production studios. That’s how I plan to do it in the future, and to give them freedom.”

Metal Gear Solid 5 made in Alaska confirmed. Tons more through the link.

Ghostbusters gets multiplayer dev diary and screens

ghostbusters16

Atari has released a few new Ghostbusters screenshots, along with a dev diary from the game’s multiplayer developers.

Threewave, the firm handling co-op for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, was initially skeptical about working on the project because “movie licensed games are not something that Threewave, being a group of mostly hardcore shooter fans, usually get excited about.”

The team changed its tune after about a month.

Read on for the diary and hit up Shacknews for the shots.
