March NPD: GTA Chinatown Wars sales less than 100,000 in US, says report

SAI is citing “industry sources” as claiming GTA: Chinatown Wars achieved only 88,704 sales in the US last month.
There’s been no official comment from NPD as yet.
Predictions on the game’s sales varied heavily in the run-up to last night’s figure-release, with 200,000 the lowest guess.
Looks as though it was worse than anyone imagined.
Hopefully we’ll get solid confirmation soon.

Shame. It’s an amazing game. It’s been advertised to high-hell also.

That’s really terrible, and a great shame too. I guess DS owners really don’t want this kind of thing.

It really is worthy of the system seller, tag. One of the best games I’ve played in a long old while.

Maybe it’s just not the kind of game that people want to play on the go…

You could say that about the PSP incarnations G1GA maybe but I found it quite easy to knock over a couple of missions on the commute to work where I only get short bursts before changing trains/tubes etc. It’s easy to suspend too, if I was in the middle of something.
Hopefully it’ll just keep selling well over time. I can’t believe out of 100m users there aren’t enough people who would enjoy it.

In other ‘bad NPD news’, MadWorld only managed 66,000 units.
