Nintendo won’t publish Fatal Frame Wii in the US

fatalframiv

Nintendo of America has decided not to publish Fatal Frame for Wii in the US. The “core” isn’t happy.

“Nintendo holds the publishing rights to Fatal Frame Wii, which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008,” Tecmo said in a statement to IGN.

“Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory.

“As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.”

Whoops. Guess you’ll just have to learn Japanese and import, American people.

Who’s publishing it in Europe?

I hate this kind of shit.

“We’re not going to publish this. Furthermore, we own the license so nobody else can publish it either. It’s ours! And you can’t have it!”

It’s certainly a change of times when NoA is actually worse than NoE.

What Blerk said, it’s very poor show on NoA’s side.

I usually try not to be this pointlessly angsty towards a company, but…

Fuck you Nintendo. Fuck you.

How does that affect the chance of Fatal Frame published in Europe? Or, to be precise, with localization (even in English only) procedures costing money and a reduced potential market, is there actually any chance of this becoming available anywhere outside Japan?

The game has been out in Japan for nearly 9 months now. If there were any plans at all to release this in Europe, it would have happened by now.

Isn’t it rumoured to be coming out here in the June? I read about there being a magazine ad for it in some European magazine.

If it is, they’ve been awfully quiet about it.

Nintendo europe did announce it for Europe, but I guess there is still time to backtrack and cancel it.

Oh looks like they have now, so as far as Nintendo is concerned it’s not leaving Japan.

Still a shame, I’m not a massive fan of the series but I do have the other 3. I don’t see why they don’t let someone else publish it over here. Then again, Wanadoo (who?), Ubisoft and Take 2 have pushed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively over here…

Turbulent publishing rights ftl.

It’s coming out in Europe, so they won’t need to learn Japanese.

But yeah, sheer stupidity on the part of NOA, this. It’s a really good game, too. Really good.
