Official: Wii games are rubbish

wiireviews

Edge has posted its final format-specific review score graph thing, this one showing categorically that the vast amount of Wii’s games are pretty much terrible.

From Wii’s launch to the end of last year, four percent of the platform’s games have rated over 85 percent on Metacritic. That’s 12 games.

Fifty-four percent, or 155 titles, have rated below 65 percent.

We don’t really need to say anything else. Read loads more words on the matter through the link, should you need to.

/goes to linked article only to read comments:

“..But the other side of me can’t blame Nintendo as they can’t control what games are released for their system..”

Oh dear. Another one who isn’t aware of how the system works.

So much for Edge readers eh? :D

hmm…still don’t get it. Especially since we know that fans have a way of skewing review scores. It is probably like everything else, an opinion taken with a grain of salt.

I’m guessing that these figures are based off ‘professional’ reviews put into one percentage for each game (like how metacritics works) so i dont really see how the fans could have affected the scores, unless your saying the reviewers themselfs hate Nintendo…

Nintendo is the only videogame publisher to internally develop both hardware and software. Sony and Microsoft have first-party studios, yes, but not in the same way Nintendo does. They each have wholly-owned development houses that answer directly to Sony and Microsoft, but their not interal teams working within their headquarters.
Does Sony own several large first-party studio’s that outnumber the 1,500 or so developers inside Nintendo’s teams? Probably. But Sony’s a much larger company than Nintendo. ”

Doesnt really mean much when all they produce is garbage and gimmick games…

That comment is wrong to, Sony do have interal Studios, unless his definition of ‘internal studio’ means something completely different.

The thing is people see the PS3, and the Xbox which are priced above 200 and 300 at the moment and then they see this other “console” thats cheaper than both and looks “fun” Moms can play. Grandpa can play .You can all play together as a ” family “. obviously they are going to get it.

Its fun for like 2 mins then it gets old. Its a fad just like all other things of the moment that seem really cool but dont have any substance.

Nintendo is not about quality, they are all about quantity.

The Wii gets so much shovel ware of really crap kiddies tv show/toy/movie tie-in games I’m not surprised at all by this.

The Wii has great potential still, they’re just not exploiting it.

‘Nintendo is not about quality, they are all about quantity.’

@SERAPHEMZ, I have to take issue with that (for that read: ‘take the bait’) I happen to think most of Nintendo’s own games output is rather fucking amazing to be honest. Granted I spend most of my time playing COD4/WaW rather than Mario Galaxy or Mario Kart. But you really couldn’t make a remark like that without a large dose of ignorance, bitterness and perhaps the ownership of say, a rival console.

The Wii’s popularity with families and younger children has made it subject to a lot of ‘shovelware’, that is true. However, no one is making you buy these shitty games, and given that Nintendo’s own games output is of such high quality, I fail to see what the problem here is exactly?

Why are so many people upset about this?

It can’t help that most reviewers have their hardcore gamer nerd hat on when they’re reviewing Wii games intended for kids and families.

Still, there *is* a lot of crap on the Wii.
