Yu Suzuki demoted at Sega

Saturday, 4th April 2009 15:00 GMT By Patrick Garratt

According to this Gamespot story, Yu Suzuki has been be ousted as Sega’s R&D creative officer, and “will stay with company in diminished capacity.”

Suzuki was the “name” behind the likes of Virtua Fighter and frankly insane RPG and bus stop sim, Shenmue.

There’s his full work history through the link.

Pretending that, until now, a new Shenmue was basically ready for release, and that now, it will never become reality?

Well, let’s face it. What’s he done recently?

Those two games are vintage though, his portrait will be framed and placed on the wall of gaming heroes in the museum of videogame greatness!!

Out of interest – just when was the last decent Sonic game? No, you can’t count Olympics or Tennis. :P

Why the hell haven’t they done what everyone else seems to be doing i.e. creating a nifty 2.5 D homeage to the originals? It’s not racket science.

What the fuck has Yu Suzuki to do with Sonic games??
Sonic games are made by Sonic Team, not Sega directly since Sonic Team is almost outcasted now. Sega just publishes them..

And also, this may mean that he may be on to something. Being “demoted” may mean getting more personal with some project and not just bossing around what others should do.

Sonic is being mention purely due to the fact that Sega rather make that crap then Yu Suzuki’s games, and Sonic is made by Sega seeing as they own Sonic Team, thats how dev teams work in Japan, they get their own names and studios.

Yu Suzuki hasn’t had a new, creative idea in 5 years.

When your job description involves coming up with ideas that appeal to the consumers, and he’s completely failed to live up to that role for half a decade, it’s little surprise that he got demoted.

I loved Shenmue as much as the next person, but it’s time to move on kids. That era is long over.
