Rumor: Fatal Frame IV to be let out of Japan “next month”
According to a post over on NintendoPad, a magazine page in a French magazine advertising Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse says it’s coming to Europe in April. Or May.
Translated, the ad states: “They will haunt your Wii next month”. Scary.
Tecmo’s announced nothing as yet, so don’t get too excited.
Official Nintendo Magazine previously reported that Fatal Frame IV would be released in Europe sometime in February, but nothing else has been said until now.
The game was released exclusively in Japan last July, and as of December 2008 has sold 63,489 copies.

Did it actually sell that poor?
I have the first two on the Xbox (the third never made it on that platform, but according to Blerk it wasn’t much of a loss), but never got to give them the attention they deserved. I am looking forward this release, although I think it was met with lukewarm reviews…

Yeah, the controls weren’t as people were expecting iirc. ’tilt’ controls for the camera instead of just ‘aim and shoot’, or something.
I’d love for them to revisit this series for the hi-defs. Make it happen Tecm…. Koei!

Which lukewarm reviews would these be? NGamer gave it 90%, Edge 8 and Famitsu gave it 36/40-ish.
IIRC it was the biggest-selling (or fastest-selling on its first week) in the series, too. It’s never been a big seller in Japan. And it was a collaborative effort with Nintendo publishing the game, so it’s not entirely true to call it a third-party release either.
It is coming out in Europe – it’s just a case of when. ONM wouldn’t have previewed it otherwise.
