Sony launches Xi in Home, “the world’s first console-based Alternate Reality Game”

Sony’s announced something called Xi, a project it’s terming “the world’s first console-based Alternate Reality Game”.
“The adventure takes place in a series of secret areas in Home – and beyond – changing day by day, week by week, in real time,” the company said in a post on the PS Blog.
“Anyone with a PlayStation 3 can join in the fun for free – in English, French, Italian, German or Spanish.
“To discover the mystery of Xi, simply log on to PlayStation Home and look for the graffiti on the wall in the main square. Find that, and all will be revealed…”
Holy go into Home for the first time since the day it launched, Batman! Get to it!

OK, I’m intrigued enough to fire up Home for this. Wonder if I’ll have to use my US account though :-/

Hm, it gives you easy riddles (which are too hard for most on there^^), and causes the system to freeze. Great work, Sony.

Still haven’t been into Home. I don’t have enough time for games, nevermind living a second life (ahem).

I have to admit – that’s exactly what I thought. I don’t have the time to queue up for bowling.

Yeah, I must admit I loved that comment.
I went in once in the last 2 months, couldn’t get a game on that Red Bull thing so logged out. A bit dismal really, but at least this sort of thing shows initiative, and give me hope that Home may yet turn into something entertaining.

Well, it’s easily the best thing yet. Best of you don’t have to queue to get one of the Holodecks.
As an aside, I can’t access the Resident Evil area because it believes I’m too young. Not that I ever had to give them my date of birth and completely ignoring the fact that you have to be 18 to create a master account in the first place. Bloody ageists!

Edit: Why is this tagged FFXIII?

I just checked this out.
This is actually quite interesting. I don’t want to spoil the surprise for anyone, but I suggest checking it out. It might actually convince you to use the service more regularly.

@ Syrok
The “Resident Evil” area is not accessible with a german account.
Until the day before yesterday it was even closed in Switzerland and Austria. (you just got a stupid error message when trying to log in.)

Ah, explains it.
I wish it would notice that I’m not in Germany anymore.

I liked it. A few minor bugs to iron out here and there, and the puzzles will hopefully get harder and harder, but this absolutely has potential.
It just might be what Home needs to get more people to log on regularly.
