The debut trailer for Obsidian RPG Alpha Protocol is posted after the break, and it’s totally badass.

Locales shown off are Moscow, Saudi Arabia and Rome, where it looks as though you’ll be doing some lock-picking, using martial arts skills against baddies, and, of course, shooting loads of people.

The GameTrailers video includes a chat with Feargus Urquhart and lead designer Chris Avellone, in which they talk about the events leading up to the game’s opening sequence, your mission and the blurred line between being a “nice guy” and a “not so nice guy”.

Expected release date for the spy-action RPG is June 15. It’s out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

I liked from the Gametrailers show coverage, when they showed the way that conversation works. You really don’t have all the time to weigh up the ‘best’ choice, because there’s a bar that depletes, above the stances you can take in conversation (you don’t actually select exactly what is said) so the pace is kept.

I wasn’t that impressed with the action, though. It didn’t look that smooth to me, and it reminded me a lot of XBOX(1)-era Sam Fisher. It all seemed a bit stilted, and I wasn’t convinced that the shooting would be that satisfying, either, unfortunately.
I think it’s a good idea, but the game around it isn’t really wowing me, at the moment – it just looks a bit too patchy.
I know that this isn’t Obsidian’s usual hunting ground, however, they chose to enter the action genre, but I hope the game delivers once it’s out.

Yeah, the technical aspect of the game looks pretty poor, with basic ragdolls that don’t look out of place in the original hitman back in 2001ish and the animation does not flow at all, the old guy getting his head banged on the desk looked comical rather than edgy. I’m willing to forgive though if the story and characters are up to Obsidians usual though.
