Nothing against CoD4, but I would prefer Mass Effect as winner for STORY AND CHARACTER award.

Creator of Pong.
That would look cool on a business card. ^^

Nothing for GTAIV? Fantastic; it’s the most overrated game in history.

Oh, and…..

STORY AND CHARACTER
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

What. The. Fuck. You’re kidding, right? Hurry up, post the real winner and stop buggering about.

SPORTS
Race Driver: GRID

Central pivot steering (so 1990) and motion sickness vehicle physics lives on and earns awards. Bodes well for the F1 franchise. NOT.

Erm, aren’t these a bit out of date? Call of Duty 4 and Super Mario Galaxy both came out in 2007! Why are games from 2007 winning awards at a 2009 awards show? What happened to them in the 2008 baftas? That’s just ridiculous.

And I feel bad for GTAIV. Hasn’t it paid its dues? It got high reviews, and everyone bitched about how it didn’t deserve them. Maybe it didn’t, but I’m sick of people calling it overrated when I hear nothing but people laying in to it. It’s about time to come full circle and started talking about it actually is a very good game. It deserves more credit from gamers.

What an utterly bizarre list. Was anyone from the games industry actually involved? :-D

I’d say it was pointless, but I think that’s fairly obvious, personally.

Just a random list of names and some darts…

I think that’s a pretty good list, meself. Deserving winner of Best Game. Dead Space for Soundtrack is a bit odd, but it deserved its award for Use Of Audio for its amazing sound design.

Oh, and because they’d made such an arse of it the year before, games from October 07 to December 08 were included for this year’s. Next year, games will have to have been released in 2009 to be eligible.

A) Who votes for these?
B) What period does it cover?

For example, CoD4 wins three awards when its sequel CoD5 is already four months old :/

That’s because the sequel is inferior to its predecessor by general consensus.

I’m assuming you’ve never read any TEA posts. He makes G1GAHURTZ seem rational. :D

My point is not a judgement on Cod4 vs Cod5 – simply that it is 2009 right now, Cod4 in a 2007 game and even its sequel is 2008.

It just makes the BAFTAs look a bit roflcopter.

@TheDifficult3rdAlbum

Publishers put their own games forward for consideration. The consideration list goes out to the Great and Not-So Good of the UK games industry, who vote on which of those games should go onto the shortlists for each category.

The BAFTA-appointed panel of judges then pick a winner from each category shortlist.

Last year, in a process I’d formally describe as “shamelessly bent”, several games leapfrogged into the nominations shortlist without even being mentioned in the considerations list that went out to the hoi polloi, since they hadn’t actually been released at the time when the nominations process is done.

Thankfully, someone must have learned their lesson, since the same shoddy and amateurishly crooked stunt wasn’t attempted again this year.

MGS4 should have got the award for best Audio IMO but I’ll accept Deadspace.
