NXE to be mandatory update for new games

Tuesday, 3rd March 2009 21:30 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

nxe

Microsoft is to include the NXE update in all new game discs.

The first titles to get this mandatory update will be HAWX and MLB: 2K9.

You won’t be able to play them unless you accept the dashboard update that pops up when you insert the disc.

There’s no escape. Welcome to Avatars, unconnected people.

My Avatar is great. He’s a fat, geeky little nob.

Accurate, that’s why I like it.

So can people who have never connected their 360′s to the net download NXE from some other place and stick it on a USB key?

    @ Gekidami
THAT is exactly my question, because I know a lot of people how have 360′s but don’t connect it to the Internet EVER.
So they buy a new game and them what?

Is there an actual press release or info from a Microsoft site saying this is happening? A link to a news story on a fairly low profile site isn’t much of a source.

This is nothing new, really. The latest version of the PSP software has been included on game UMDs and enforced upon anyone who wanted to play them since the thing launched four years ago, although obviously storage space requirements for that are slightly less of an issue.

I still haven’t got an avatar, just can’t be bothered and don’t see the need tbh. Exit out everytime.

I am just a shadow of my former self… ;)

Bit silly making them mandatory imo.

Can you actually delete an avatar? It seems a bit retarded having them on my guest account… it’s sure as hell not going to look like whoever is using it unless it gets set up every time.
