Bill Roper: Don’t count Warhammer Online out just yet

warhammeronlinea41

Bill Roper has told MTV that it’s too early to write off Warhammer Online just yet.

“It’s so funny, I hear half the people are saying, ‘Oh gosh, Warhammer looks like it isn’t doing so great’, because they said they had [dropped to] 300,000 subscribers”, said the Cryptic boss.

“Those are not bad numbers. And I think people look at it and go, ‘Well, WoW has got 11 million and your game only has 300,000, your game must not be doing good’.

“I know many games out there that would love to have 300,000 subscribers”, he added.

Roper said that MMO players go back and forth between games – especially when new expansions come out – so you have to give numbers time to rise again.

To help balance out server populations, Mythic announced that more free character transfers began yesterday, and as an incentive to switch you’ll get a 20 percent experience and renown bonus for a limited time.

Thanks, Massively

What’s the monthly sub for this game, £10?

300k x £10 is a very good monthly turnover…

Its only a low number when compared to WoW. I just wish WAR was more polished and I would probably go back. Its a much better game in terms of pvp but lets face it, most MMOs are so stale now.

They lack creativity, new ideas and actual proper story driven quests rather than the ‘go and kill me xxx of frogs so I can make a soup’.

Bring back the original Star Wars Galaxies format and you will have a winner

For an MMO as hyped as ‘WAR’, a game seen as (or made out as atleast) WoW’s only rival thats a very low number.

So you expect it to have 11 million people playing over night? Get real. At launch it had around 400,-500,000 players which seems to be the average for a licensed MMO.

And I for one minute dont believe that 11 million people ‘play’ WoW. Most probably have forgotten to cancel their subs.
