Press release after the jump.

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is pleased to announce that "Monster Hunter Freedom 2G” for the PlayStation®Portable (PSP®), together with “Monster Hunter Freedom 2G PSP® the Best”, has shipped 3 million units in Japan.

Last year, “Monster Hunter Freedom 2G” sold more than any other game in the Japanese market (according to internal findings). And, the fact that it was the first title to use Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (Japan)’s new “adhoc Party for PlayStation®Portable beta version” service, which makes PSP® ad-hoc play possible over a network, contributed to that success. Since we released “Monster Hunter Freedom 2G PSP® the Best”, as a way to tap into a new user base, it has sold more than 500,000 copies, making “Monster Hunter Freedom 2G” the first Capcom game for PSP® to ship more than 3 million units.

The ever-popular “Monster Hunter” franchise is a series of action games centered on epic battles with giant monsters set in the grandeur of the great outdoors. The heart and soul of this series is the groundbreaking ability to play cooperatively with friends in order to take down enormous beasts. This feature has fostered a new level of communication and interactivity. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our many fans, this title has become a major phenomenon with people in all walks of life since its release on March 27, 2008. Since that time, Capcom has held many Monster Hunter-related promotional events in an effort to increase the proliferation of the Monster Hunter brand and exceed fans’ needs and expectations.

Additionally, March 11, 2009 will mark the 5th anniversary of the release of the first “Monster Hunter” game. Over the past 5 years, the series has sold more than 8.5 million total units (as of December 31, 2008), and has grown into Capcom’s leading franchise. We will continue to drive forward multifaceted business development plans in order to increase the level of customer satisfaction.
