Blood Bowl PS3 dev too “risky,” says Cyanide

Speaking to Destructoid, Cyanide explained that Blood Bowl won’t be heading to PS3 because it has no previous experience with the platform and can’t afford the risk.

“Cyanide is a small company,” the developer said.

“We have no previous experience on that platform [and] it would have been a bit risky and expensive for us. But, we are hoping to do a PS3 version if the game is selling well.”

Based on the tabletop game of the same name, Blood Bowl is set in a fantasy universe similar to Warhammer and pits dwarfs, elves, goblins, orcs and trolls against each other in a bloody game of football.

It’s out for DS, PC, PSP and Xbox 360 sometime this year.

Pah now that is silly, if they developed it for the ps3 it might stop them being a small company after its released.

Hell if they can’t do it themselves, why not let someone else take the, ahem, risk…

They could farm it out to someone else to port, but maybe they think the sales wont cover the costs.

Can’t blame them. Should really show this to crazy Kaz Hirai, because he seems to think that the PS3 being hard to develop for is good for PS3 owners. What about those that are missing out on games like this?

@ecu trouble is “hard to develop for” is bollocks…

If you are expecting a system like the PC or 360 then YES it is hard, as you have to do some work to make your games work, but hard?! no, no harder than developing for PS1 or PS2, or indeed any other system that does supply “dumb fuck” libraries.

We develop on the PS3 and truth be told it’s NOT rocket science.

It would be fucking sweet if PS3s DID have rockets in them, though.

@Zarckan – yeah well tell that to Valve, who also hates developing on the PS3, and to John Carmack of ID, who isnt that crazy about the platform either.
Let me guess, you guys are better than John carmack and valve…….uh huh…….

@fearmonkey… I shouldn’t get caught up in this nonsense, but I know John, I am aware of his thoughts on the PS3, which are …

    1. It’s good system
    2. You can’t program it like a PC etc, you have to tackle things differently.

That does NOT mean he hates or loves it.

As for being Better than John, er no, not many are. As for Valve, hmmm yeah, Source, ok. whatever.

I have an email from Cyanide Studios that claims that it is the publishers call on what platforms that they developed on and not their ability. My email is dated 1/30/09.
