R-Type Dimensions on Live now

Wednesday, 4th February 2009 10:37 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Yours for a mere 1,200 MS Points.

The coin-op classics, R-Type & R-Type II, are together at last! Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in original 2D or all-new 3D graphics – and swap back and forth on-the-fly. Both Classic and Infinite modes can be played as single player or multiplayer missions; either locally or over Xbox LIVE. Power up and strike down the evil Bydo Empire!!

Go shoot something.

I shall give it go for sure. I always was a big R-Type fan.

    It’s awful.

Blimey, the presentation is quite nice! Better than any of the retro compilations from the previous gen for a start.

Anyone worried about the 3D makeover: you can swap between 3D and the original (non-filtered!) graphics with a single button press.

    Quite impressed!

    1200 points? Fuck that.

  7. Retroid

    It’s for both games, remember.

    #7 6 years ago

    I’ll probably get it.

I love how people get their nose bent out of shape over £8/£10 vs £6/£7 :D

  10. OrphanageExplosion

    You’re paying £10 for a 1987 game with a mediocre face-lift. It’s absolute insanity.

  11. Psychotext

You’d have a point if it was the usual rom dump with filter rather than a full graphical overhaul.

It soon adds up though, PT. 800 points here, 1200 points there, before you know it you’ve spent a good £40-£50.

  13. Retroid

Yes, on several games which would probably die an expensive and obscure death through normal retail channels.

ecu: I’ve spent a good £250+ on XBLA so I’m probably not the best person to comment on £40-£50. :D

Am downloading it right now. Can’t wait!

Am just pissed that I have to buy a 360 to play this….!!! Grrrr fucken M$ tossers

  22. Blerk

Buying a machine to play some slightly rejigged version of a 20-year-old coin-op seems… ever so slightly bizarre.

  23. OrphanageExplosion

You’d have a point if it was the usual rom dump with filter rather than a full graphical overhaul.

It’s still 1987 gameplay and the facelift is still mediocre, whether it’s ‘full’ or not. I played this on Partnernet months ago and thought it would pumped out at 400 points… 1200 verges into Peter Andre-style Insania territory.

  24. Psychotext

But 1987 is when gameplay was hot!

And Syrok was born. All in all a fantastic year. :)

Thanks for that Syrok, now I feel fucking old. :(

Fuck you, R-Type Dimensions. Where’s my fucking MMO version of R-Type Final, with huge concurrent battles, huge fleets of Bydo command ships and bosses needing squadrons of players to take down?

Even if it’s just so 10 people can use Concert Masters to play a tune on varying charged blasts.

Instead, I’m asked to pay for yet another remake with a tilty camera.

    #28 6 years ago
  29. Retroid

The camera is only tilty if you want it to be.

    #29 6 years ago
  30. tont

Yes, which makes it even more pointless, surely?

  31. Madeira
