I shall give it go for sure. I always was a big R-Type fan.

Blimey, the presentation is quite nice! Better than any of the retro compilations from the previous gen for a start.
Anyone worried about the 3D makeover: you can swap between 3D and the original (non-filtered!) graphics with a single button press.
Quite impressed!

I love how people get their nose bent out of shape over £8/£10 vs £6/£7

You’re paying £10 for a 1987 game with a mediocre face-lift. It’s absolute insanity.

You’d have a point if it was the usual rom dump with filter rather than a full graphical overhaul.

It soon adds up though, PT. 800 points here, 1200 points there, before you know it you’ve spent a good £40-£50.

Yes, on several games which would probably die an expensive and obscure death through normal retail channels.

ecu: I’ve spent a good £250+ on XBLA so I’m probably not the best person to comment on £40-£50.

Buying a machine to play some slightly rejigged version of a 20-year-old coin-op seems… ever so slightly bizarre.

It’s still 1987 gameplay and the facelift is still mediocre, whether it’s ‘full’ or not. I played this on Partnernet months ago and thought it would pumped out at 400 points… 1200 verges into Peter Andre-style Insania territory.

But 1987 is when gameplay was hot!

Fuck you, R-Type Dimensions. Where’s my fucking MMO version of R-Type Final, with huge concurrent battles, huge fleets of Bydo command ships and bosses needing squadrons of players to take down?
Even if it’s just so 10 people can use Concert Masters to play a tune on varying charged blasts.
Instead, I’m asked to pay for yet another remake with a tilty camera.

The camera is only tilty if you want it to be.
