US smartphone game sales up 300% in November

Monday, 2nd February 2009 09:48 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Grief. It’s the mobile dream. According to comScore, 2.9 million game were downloaded for smartphones in the US in November 2008, up from 734,000 in November 2007. That’s a rise of 291 percent.

Why? iPhone, obviously, and its App Store. According to this Cellular News story, iPhone owners accounted for 14 percent of mobile game downloaders in November, with 32.4 percent of all iPhone users reporting they downloaded a game in the month, compared with a market average of 3.8 percent.

Those in the mobile games industry are probably running around naked in the snow, screaming for joy. Thanks, Engadget.

I have a request: can you make this an Apple-free zone? It was because of Gawker’s total obsession with all things “i” that I quit Gizmodo and Kotaku and found this place.

I try to ignore most of it, to be honest. I did think this was newsworthy, though. But no, you won’t get a flood of “SIM CITY PORTED TO IPHONE” stories from us :)

lulz @ wanting to completely ignore the most important hardware and distribution platform in the history of mobile gaming.

That said, can we make this a completely Sony-free zone? IRONY SMASH

We could make it a gaming free zone and post stories on hawt women instead. That would work for me.

There’s just not that much iPhone “news”. All there is, we give you, mart. You BASTARD.

That wasn’t really directed at you Pat, more the chap who wants to completely ignore it :) I’m not hankering after iPhone news, I just think it’s a silly notion to want to ignore a whole platform.

I blame this on your computer, mart. You’re an Apple-shaped shell of a man.
