Eurogamer Germany gives Killzone 2… an 8

killzone2a7.jpg

Oh lordy. Eurogamer.de’s gone live with an 8/10 Killzone 2 review, the lowest score in the world so far.

The game’s Metacritic score is currently 95 percent.

A bunch of sites were given regional exclusives on reviews last Friday, with the general review embargo lifting today.

Cool. I’ve been waiting for the non-exclusive reviews.

They should give a much more accurate representation of the quality of the game, I think.

I agree with G1GAHURTZ, non exclusive reviews reflect the true quality of a game. But even so the metacritic score isnt bad at all.

Ehh… I don’t think we’re going to see any significant difference between the overall average of the exclusive reviews vs the others.

Eurogamer is accurate, regardless of whether the review is exclusive or not.

Eurogamer Portugal – 10
Eurogamer UK – 9
Eurogamer Germany – 8

So they are accurate according to what language they speak?

@Giga: Different reviewer, different opinion.

Well, the Helghast are basically Nazis in Space, which might make German reviewers slightly twitchy. Guerilla are a Dutch studio, and there’s still not much love lost between the Dutch and their larger neighbours. (And vice versa – the Germans call the Dutch ‘cheeseheads’ when the Dutch aren’t looking)

So one point off for rampant Nazi references, and another for the cheesheads producing a bigger game than any German studio.

As far as I can understand it didn’t get 9/10 because of lack of co-op, sketchy controls and thin storyline.
And there seems to be some bitterness because it’s developed by the Dutch. :D

@ Syrok:

Yeah, of course.

Strange as it may seem, I’m actually waiting for the Giant Bomb review… I think that Gerstmann was the one of the only reviewers to mark COD5 down for the right reasons while others were claiming that it was better than COD4.

Czech website Hrej.cz also gave Killzone 2 8 out of 10. The review went live thursday last week saying, it’s higly polished and very entertaining game, which brings nothing new to genre. Its basicaly nothing groundbreaking, great FPS game, nothing more, nothing less.

Wow an 8….. how bad…. With the trend of giving games too high scores and 8 looks bad. A few years ago an 8 would have been a great score. Now for many it feels like a 6.

@Captain Fruitloop: I think you are so wrong. I am german and no, I dont think that the review guy gave KZ 2 an 8 because its from the dutch. And if he did, then i wouldn’t listen to that guy anyway. because my impression is that we germans like the dutch. i have dutch friends, i know many people from different schools and many schools go there and visit their country.
yes you are right, killzone 2 is propably better than any game produced in germany. but remember crysis and far cry (not 2), they were produced in germany.
and the thing about the nazis…well i haven’t thought about this once, that the helghast might be like the nazis…

The reviewer has no grudge against the dutch nor did he share your paranoia about nazi-helghast. He critizes the way aiming works as well as the thin storyline. If you check the reviews listed on metacritic you might even find some saying the same – my fav. is: “At first glance its graphics will simply blow you away. Unfortunately the looks are the only truly sensational thing about this game.” – and still giving the game a 90%. So much for ratings…
