…and no, the PS3 hasn’t been anywhere near close the the PS2 for a long, long time now. That’s based on both shipped and sold through numbers. If it ever was at all outside of individual countries.

Estimates the world’s biggest retailer? Estimates? Like VGChartz do? That’s reliable.

My argument is with the guy who said the 360 is clearly ahead in EU. He didn’t say which figures he was choosing to believe (or which he was choosing to ignore).

Anyway, if Sony and MS rely on NPD et al, why do the analysts often get proved wrong by the manufacturers’ numbers when they are released at quarterly statements? How does that work precisely?

And yes, the PS3 was matching the PS2 for from-launch performance until a couple of months ago. But Killzone 2 may well return the PS3 to the PS2 trend line.

You do know that NPD estimates Wal*mart sales right?

Nintendo, Sony and MS all use NPD / Chart Track / GFK / Media Create figures in their presentations simply because for accuracy on sold through figures… nothing compares.

The only figures the hardware manufacturers can give us reliably are shipment figures (sold to retailer). We have the most recent ones as of a couple of days ago.

WII: 44.96m (24.83m in 2008)
360: 28.50m (10.80m in 2008)
PS3: 21.30m (10.78m in 2008)

…and yes, that means the Wii sold more to retailers in 2008 than the 360 and PS3 combined. Scary.

The only reliable figures are from the manufacturers themselves, and MS and Sony don’t have one figure which matches the other’s geographical area.

We don’t know who is ahead in EU, but I know that people like Reeves know more than us.

And if you think MS bullshit us any less than Sony then you must be a fanboy moron. Seen all those recent Greenberg quotes recently? My favourite: “MS are equal winners with Nintendo”. Priceless.

To the second dude, Sony is obviously the one throwing the most shit(for example the bogus price comparison charts that they seem to release yearly and that “we dont have to ask for exclusives” statement). Just because M$ throws shit too dont mean they’re throwing the most.

ok we all heard about the leaked specs of the ps4 right?
its gonna use a hyper version of the cell and blu-ray blah blah blah yea.But what if the ps4 could use that tech to enhance ps3 games. Combined with the ps4 gpu (obviously created by Nvidia) and the cpu (hyper cell) the hardware could revamped the software into a next gen title. Of course they would have to make sure developers start encoding for this kind of thing. The ps4 would have a great launch line up.
