Eurogamer Killzone 2 review – it’s a 9 [Update]

killzone2a6.jpg

Update: IGN’s given it 9.4.

Update 2: More scores:

Eurogamer’s gone live with its Killzone 2 review, giving the game 9/10.

Snip:

This is a methodical shooter that makes few concessions to those not already interested in its single-minded approach to cover-based military action. I’ve compared it to Rainbow Six in the past, but it also calls to mind F.E.A.R, another tough tactical effort that was often misunderstood by those expecting a frag-happy spook hunt. Killzone 2 is a taut and muscular game, a shooter that gives back more than you put in, provided you have the intestinal fortitude. It may take its time revealing its true depths and pleasures, but the journey is well worth taking. Between Killzone 2′s unforgiving grit and Resistance 2′s alien-bursting excess, the PS3 finally has both ends of the shooter spectrum covered in grand style.

We’ll bring you more scores as they come up. Game’s out later this month.

I’m trying to talk about Killzone 2, but it’s hard not for me to spout my filthy fanboy lies and oppress the harmless PS3 owners here. :(

I’m so green with envy you see, because I’m poor and I can’t afford one. >:(

Haha….

I don’t know if we should laugh looking into the near future.

Anyway, for February, all I have to worry about is Killzone 2.

You’re right Stickboy, lets see if Infamous will be the saviour of the PS3 instead.

“Michael: You’re full of shit. Exclusive and official does not equal biased.”

You’re kidding, right? A review on a site that made contractual deals with the very developers themselves to promote a game is… unbiased?

Right.

@Michael
The review was done and scored before the exclusive deal was made.

Michael, you’re paranoid and very untrusting. It saddens me.

Well, I’d usually agree about official soruces, but having played the first Motorstorm extensively… I dunno how it got that score.

OR how Warhawk got it’s score.

But yeah EXCLUSIVE reviews are always dodgy.

There is quite a commotion going on in the Norwegian game community after the country’s biggest gaming site Gamer.no posted a rather negative 6/10 review of Killzone 2 yesterday morning.

It contained obvious flame-bait phrases like:
Title of the review: “The false prophet”

“Playstations long expected trump card is finally out of the sleeve, and it’s rather a jack than an ace.”

“To aquire a contender against Microsofts Master Chief has long been a high priority with the Japanese Giant (Sony), well, at least amongst the screaming coir who call themselves Sony-fans.”

“It holds a high star in the church, and I will soon curse from the pulpit infront of the Playstation-community”

Well, those sentences pretty much sets the standard for the rest of the review, which contains more mentions of Halo 3 and Gears of War than Killzone 2 itself…

But that’s not the end of the story. An hour after this review was posted, Edda Media, the media house which owned Gamer.no, kicked the site prematurely out of the network.
(It was announced the day before that they would separate from the network, but continue to be hosted by Edda Media as long as next week, but now Gamer.no is no more. They were separated because of a seemingly unrelated event, but no details were given.)

I can’t imagine what would happen if IGN or Eurogamer posted a review like that! :D

At this point, getting 9′s and 10′s is kinda expected for KZ2, but originally I expected it to be a failed attempt at meeting the ’05 trailer — Instead it looks really fucking awesome, do want.
