Videogames outsell DVD and Blu-ray in 2008

According to Media Control GfK International, global sales of videogames overtook DVD and Blu-ray for the first time last year.

Software sales grossed $32 billion, up 20 percent whereas DVD and Blu Ray sales dipped 6 percent to $29 billion.

Gfk cites the popularity of Nintendo Wii for the growth.

exactly, ‘outsold’ seems a bit missleading to me.

it’s not misleading at all. it’s about the amount of money and not about the number of units sold. and as for the fact that they cost more, well, that’s console owners fault for paying that much for their games, that’s one, and second, it’s ok to cost more sometimes. most games offer much more good quality time then movies do.
