Sony has no plans to reduce SCEE headcount [Update]

In light of Sony Corp. announcing that it needs reduce its headcount in its Gaming Segment, Videogaming247 has learned that there are currently no plans to reduce SCEE’s staff roster.

Cuts are to be made at Sony, the firm said this morning, in an effort to shed ¥250 billion.

There’s still no confirmation as to where cuts will be made. As soon as we know, so will you.

SCEE president David Reeves has informed staff internally that cuts will not affect games staff.

“This is still the case. He has just sent a message to employees here to that effect,” said a Sony spokesperson to GI.

“As was the case with the previous Sony restructuring announcement this mainly concerns our electronics business.”

Of course, there are always ‘no plans’ to cut jobs right up until the minute that they change the locks.

It would be a shame if they started to shed studios from SCE, as I think their solid first party support is one of the PS3′s best selling points.

Good call IMO. There’s no question Sony have made a few bad bets this gen, but I’d much rather see a humbled and more determined Sony emerge from this, rather than a weakened and beaten one.

I don’t think anyone wants Sony to go away, not even Microsoft.
