Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 13 will launch in 2009 in Japan. However, overseas launches of the game will come in April 2010, or perhaps even beyond that, writes the Guardian.

The piece cites Square Enix president Yoichi Wada who, talking ahead of the firm’s year-end business report, said “that the company plans to launch the next version of “Final Fantasy” in 2009 in Japan, further strengthening its product lineup.”

“Overseas launches of the latest “Final Fantasy” game will come in the business year from April 2010 or later,” Wada said.

Ouch! I didn’t realise he’d said “business year 2010″!

People seem to be expecting the game to shortly follow that March demo with the Advent Children Blu-Ray. Looking at what he’s said, I get the sense that the Japanese release is going to be a lot closer to Christmas 2009 than most people are expecting.

Are they still planning on releasing Vs at the same time? Or did I make that up?

I don’t think they’ve ever said they would release them together. Then again I don’t think they’ve ever said they wouldn’t.

It’s hard to imagine Vs coming out before proper XIII, though. And releasing them together might impact sales too. So we might be waiting even longer for that!

In this country I totally agree.

Boo, that’s the one I’m looking forward to more. Ah well, such is life. Not like there’s a shortage of JRPGs going about.

Does this mean that they will stop showing screen shots of this game until it’s near release-time?

So is this porting or localisation time?

Or both?

Both. They said previously that they’ll be working on porting and localisation in tandem.

Ahh.

Soldiers look so cool.

Never played a FF game. Friend lent me FF8 which I am going to play.

Haha…

I’d go for any of them, but he only has FF8 intact.
