Epic: Gears 2 surpasses 4 million in 2 months, double that of its predecessor

Gears of War 2 global product manager Guy Welch announced that the man-shooter has sold over 4 million copies in its first two months on the market.

This figure is double that of the first game, which sold 2 million during that period.

“The original Gears of War was the fastest-selling next-generation game of 2006, selling more than 2 million units worldwide that Holiday, and now well over 5 million copies sold to date,” said Welch.

“With Gears of War 2, the game has sold over 4 million units in the first two months, doubling the pace of the original.”

Thanks, GameDaily.

I just finished this game on Insane difficulty yesterday.

I have to say that for what it is, it’s one of the buggiest games I’ve ever played.

Some of the AI is totally ridiculous as well.

Blimey.

Pity I didn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much as the original :(

Yeah QA on Microsoft Games isn’t great usually.

Not a knock on the game itself at all, I played quite a bit, but it was the start and apparently that is notoriously like the first one. But yeah, it felt like the first one.

I thought the SP in Gears 2 utterly destroyed the SP in Gears 1. I understand that the MP is supposed to be utterly broken in Gears 2 but as I never played MP in either I couldn’t really comment. :)

Once, the game managed to save me at a point where Dom just totally refused to shoot (The bit where you find Maria).

Being that this is one of the most difficult bits in the game anyway, because you’re being attacked from two sides, the fact that it was on Insane made it even harder.

So basically I was stuck on on of the most difficult parts of the game constantly screaming at Dom because he just took cover at a wall and wouldn’t shoot.

I must have tried that bit for over 2 hours before deciding to try the level from the beginning and using the torque bow instead of the longshot.

Anyway, the second time that I get there, all of a sudden Dom decides to actually start shooting, and I manage to do it in only a few attempts!

That’s just one example.

It still suffers from the problem of making you stick to stuff while you’re trying to run away from things, and the bit where you have to move the crane over to the top of a building is just a joke.

Having said all of that, the good parts are really good. If they had sorted out all of the bugs this would probably be one of my favourite games ever.

But they didn’t, so I’m less than impressed with it atm.
