December NPD: GTA IV 360 sales almost double that of PS3 for 2008

Makes sense. There are about half as many PS3 owners as there 360 owners.

360 GTAIV to PS3 GTAIV = 1.75:1

Sorry, a better attach rate for the PS3 so no “just” about it for the PS3s GTA numbers.

To be fair we only just found out the numbers for the full year, though it did always look like being in line with the userbases.

Obviously it didn’t quite happen that way.

And it’s ludicrous to compare console to game sale ratios, since EA manages to do a good job of selling more games on the PS3 than it does on the 360.

Face it, more people bought it on 360 because of a number of reasons including the DLC and the quality of LIVE over PSN.

Or maybe PS3 owners were too busy watching Blu-ray films to bother with it…

All the chavs have moved to 360 now so that’s not surprising.

alot of people are washed up on gta games. i still haven’t finished it. The only people who are raving about it are little 14-16 years which is the major population of xbox owners (one of the reasons it sold more copies)but gta4 is still a great game

The Japanese market says fuck anything that’s not a handheld. Ok, maybe not quite that severe for the Wii but anything else is largely ignored.

As for the European market. It’s owned by Nintendo like everywhere else.

Whether or not it’s on the same level or not is frankly irrelevant. When people who owned PS2s are buying Wiis it’s certainly competing for the same customers. As for the PS2, sure there’s still 140m odd of them out there, but as not many people buy games for them any more it’s of far less importance than it was. It sold about the same amount of software as the PS3 last quarter (Sony’s own financial figures)… that’s 15-20m PS3s selling the same amount of games as 140m+ PS2s. Which in turn is about 1/2 of the games sold by the 360 or the Wii.

Oh, and bad news for you my good man. When the PS3 launched it was 6-7m units behind the 360. As of now (more than two years later) it’s 8-9m units behind the 360. Now my maths isn’t that good, but that doesn’t look like it’s catching up to me.
