New inFAMOUS gameplay looking very good indeed

infamous2b.jpg

After the break you can see new footage of Sucker Punch’s PS3 exclusive, inFAMOUS.

The trailer reminds us of Real Time World’s Crackdown if we’re being honest, and that being one of our favourite games this gen, means our inFAMOUS excitement levels are rising.

Game’s is out later this year.

Hmm. I remain unconvinced.

Looks like Crackdown minus the fun, plus his running animation is awful!

Still the city looks great and all, so let’s hope it all pulls together.

I think playing it will be the decider.

Everyone who’s gone hands on has been impressed. But I ahve got to say it’s not exactly and easy sell, when all we’ve seen is the same environments, the same weak powers and the same hooded enemies.

The glimpse of sewers, police and more interesting climbing were just too short in the video.

It just looks… wonky. And stiff. And not very good at all. After the really very lovely Sly Racoon stuff, it’s all something of a shock.

If this had been a third-party multi-platform title, I doubt anyone would have even given it a second glance.

It’s very pretty and it’s obviously not at the end of its production cycle. It’s coming from a developer with pedigree so for now I shall give it the benefit of the type.

If, however, it’s trying to compete with Prototype then it looks like a lost cause. As a hi-def free-roaming action-platformer, this could do quite well – but as a true super-powered open world game, Prototype has it beat.

I think its just trying to be a good game about something the devs are interested in not ticking a checkmark on a focus test sheet.

I agree Blerk, if it were Third Party. But if it were Third Party with Sly Racoon under it’s belt, thats a different matter.

And come off it with the animation thing, the superb animation is still there, but the more realistic charcters make the animation suddenly look jarring.

An art direction more forgiving of the game in motion may have been sensible, and I am so bored of brown sunsets.

Yeah, and I think it’s trying to be heavy on the narrative, which I doubt Prototype will be.

But much in the same vein as Heavy Rain, I am abit of a purist when it comes to games, I think they shouldn’t need a narrative at all, and that it should be enjoyable at it’s core.

So the animation’s superb, it just looks bad? That makes sense! :-D

Yes, stop being so facetious you old cynic.

That is exactly what it is, becuase the animation itself is wonderful, just looks strange on that man, and everyone other ped and enemy for that matter.

if he runs like a spacker then the animation is bad, no matter how smooth, and boy does he run like a spacker.

I want to see more of it, the potential is there but these latest videos have lacked the killer ooompth I was looking for, to make it stand out.

The city looks too dead, and I know that after this devastation the city has suffered, people aren’t going to be casually strolling around, but how about people huddled in corners for warmth, looting stores, aimlessly wandering. I’m sold on the gameplay but the world just doesn’t look any fun, and that’s something I hope they address quickly.

Well, all I am saying is, animators don’t suddenly lose their talent, and their experience is from modelling a racoon, with (specifically taking into account the strange runnign animation) differing joints to humans, even as a caricature.

And as a preemptive retort to the continued cynicism, no I am not mad, and yes it does make a difference.

But, the floatiness in the climbing is the thign that ticks me of, everything else is fine. Yeah the game is gonna need to wow me more before I buy it.

So what you’re really saying is that man runs great for a racoon?

I see…
