We can make another 5 Bioshocks, says 2K president
In an interview with MCV, Global President of 2K Christoph Hartmann has said that if done right, the Bioshock franchise could be like Star Wars and be a six-parter.
“For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix?” said Hartmann.
“The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’.
“But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did,” he went on.
“But we have to be careful not to cash in. I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.”
Bioshock 2 Sea of Dreams is due out late 2009.

Am I the only one that thinks a sequel will probably suck?

My problem with BioShock was the fact that the only way you could interact with the rich, varied and astonishingly fascinating world they’d created – populated by interesting and engaging characters – was… by blowing things up and killing things.
Needs more adventure and less action, IMHO. Oh, and an inventory, too.
I am, however, intrigued by the possibility of a prequel. Just <b?the one, though.

More importantly, which racing game is he referring to…?

He could just have said Need For Speed. Nobody would have been offended.

Please don’t do another five. You’re not Activision.

Bioshock is not a tale of good versus evil. The fact that it wasn’t was what was best about it.

If the first one is anything to go by, they’ve barely go enough story to cover the next game, let alone another four after that.

I reeeeeeeeally look forward to BioShock II, but mainly because I read that it will be a prequel that covers the time when Rapture begins to crumble. If they did a ‘someone else goes back down and this happens’ kind of thing it would suck.
No, this story/world/game is just too special, too great, to just decide ‘hey we could make a bunch of these and keep the quality’. Impossible.
Please don’t run this into the ground.

PLEASE don’t do 5 more Bioshocks. It shouldn’t be more than a trilogy – most games shouldn’t.
