Rumour: Bioshock Sea of Dreams to be “mostly a prequel”, new Big Daddy revealed [Update]

bioshock21b.jpg

A post on the Bioshock 2 forums seems to confirm that Bioshock: Sea of Dreams will be “mostly a prequel” to the first game.

The post also shows a picture of one of “New Daddy’s” “experimental suits” (pictured above).

Full entry below:

Seeming that Bioshock 2 is going to be mostly a prequel. One of the greatest things too look forward to is what to expect of the Big Daddy. In the picture you can see a sneak peak of one of the big daddy’s experimental suits. One of the new weapons that the Big daddy’s will have is an archaic looking wooden cannon. The tank on his back is a lot smaller than what we’re use to seeing, and the gloves and pants are more of a leather rather than the traditional Diver suits. And probably the most noticeable change that the “New Daddy” has is the helmet, it only has three sight holes, and they are all forward facing. Whereas the Big Daddy’s helmet has multiple sight holes and they give multiple angles of sight.

Update: It has been brought to our attention that this information might not be as reliable as first thought. Therefore, it’s filed firmly under “rumour” for now.

Looking at that shot, they should’ve called them ‘Big Fatties’. No prizes for guessing who ate all of Rapture’s pies.

Am I the only one who is bored of prequels?

Actually the shot’s a little disappointing. Having only just finished up the original last week, it’s a bit of a shame that it’s looking to be ‘more of the same’ right down to the locations. I hope they’ve got some new environments in there.

That’s not a shot from the new game, it’s actually an early Bioshock screenshot (not counting the very early, pre-Rapture stuff Irrational released). The big daddy is one of the designs they dropped from the final game.

Doesn’t even look like those are official forums, so disregard the fact that the poster is a forum admin and assume this is either complete bullshit or just an over enthusiastic fan who’s stumbled on an old shot and thought he’d got a scoop.

This is one of the big daddy’s i wanted to fight in the first Bioshock. It was dropped and to say its new concept art is a lie. Its old concept art.

I don’t think that’s an official forum at all.

Over-rated game is over-rated.

And also in desperate need of a proper inventory screen.

Why were you disappointed with Bioshock, Pud? I expected not to like it but ended up pleasantly surprised. Not my usual cup of cocoa at all, but I enjoyed it pretty much all the way through.

I was disappointed with bioshock too. It was lauded as great new art form of fps and yet had all the same old tired bullshit of locked doors and inventory but just happened to have a nice art deco front end.

I traded it after a couple of hours of play…

I don’t want to boil it down to the basics, becuase thats such a fallacy for criticising a game, but when those basics become so noticeable, it really breaks games for me.

And I guess with the hyperbole surrounding it, I was expecting soemthign more than a shooter, and an impressive audiovisual experience. When I say impressive, it is, but it’s also generic, the use of music and the art deco, totally generic and steam-punky. I don’t believe it deserved half of the praise it received in that area. Especially if you frequent concep art forums like me.

Art Deco is another tired style that is added to a budding artists repetoir, for nothign more than reference, or a pallete to draw inspiration from.

Becuase that IS what it boils down to for me. And i guess reading to much into the reviews is what totally killed it.

It wasn’t lauded as a great new art form, bu there was hyperbole surrounding a cutscene, and generally your comment makes me cringe, but I think I have mainy the same problems with the game as you.
