SCEA’s confirmed that Home voice chat – a feature removed as part of the effort to stabilize connection to the app – will be re-added in a patch today.

From the PS Blog:

PlayStation Home update 1.05 is scheduled to be released on December 22. With this new update, users will be able to use the voice chat within their personal space and clubhouses to communicate and share with friends online.

By clicking on their PlayStation Home icon on the PlayStation Network column of XMB, users will be able to update PlayStation Home to 1.05. Users who are online with PlayStation Home will need to log-off and click on PlayStation Home icon.

“Honesty tends to be one of most important parts of social interaction.”

At some point of a relationship: Yes, I totally agree!
When seeing someone for the first few minutes: No, it’s a very stupid advice to be 100% honest! ;)

And just a reminder: Not being “100% honest” does not equal “lack of social skills”. It’s plain stupid to say something like this.

why are you morons debating this… 360 users want to complain about something so we aren’t enjoying our PS3s for all the great games we have. Honestly, if you could play games instead of here debating how long your HD console cock is we’d all be better for it. I for one am sick of this shit…

I don’t care what system you have, I have mine and it has GREAT games, GREAT ONLINE, and GREAT other bonuses (you all know which I am talking about, and if you don’t know what the PS3 has to offer you are a closed minded fool). I think this will be my last post on here, as I realize that I don’t game as much as I read about it and all your lame interpretations and beliefs about your damn system.

    Good night

“Oh wait, that’s right, most of them hate using it because of the constant sexual harassment and stalking they get.”

So you suggest that real women dress up as men? ;)

*points to his post about LittleBigPlanet being his favourite game this year*

“So you suggest that real women dress up as men? ;)

You’re not getting sexually discriminated against simply because of your gender. They are.

And most women I’d wager would rather simply *not* use than pretend to be a man. That’s why social networks like FaceBook have become so much more popular than MySpace, because functionality in relation to who you really are is ingrained into the system, whilst still providing privacy.

that was a threat… ok? more like a warning to me. and morriss do you think when guys look in your direction they want you? i’m just trying to figure out the mind of a homo thats all so i know how to avoid them in public you get a lot of misconceptions i bet eh

… and do I really have to remind you that these are virtual avatars?
Even if the gender is correct, they do not (need to) represent your real looks, as I said before. It’s all about a made up visual representation, that’s the name of the game. Is that so complicated to understand?

  7. “…and do I really have to remind you that these are virtual avatars?”

Yes, being controlled by real people.

“Even if the gender is correct, they do not (need to) represent your real looks, as I said before.”

If you’re not being honest, that defeats the whole point of socialising with someone.

Don’t compare FaceBook to Home! This is ridiculous. Two completely different things. On FaceBook you don’t even use a nickname! You’re there with your real full name (it’s a requirement), address and what not. And you never ever talk to complete strangers on FaceBook like we do right here or in Home. FaceBook is a social platform to interact with people you know and see in your real life! If you use it otherwise, you really are out of your mind.

  9. “Don’t compare FaceBook to Home! This is ridiculous.”

Okay, I’ll compare it to Second Life then.

Most of the people I’ve met in Second Life *are* the genders they claim to be… and even better, women don’t get harassed from the moment they enter the (virtual) room to the moment they leave.

    It’s an avatar! Hello?!
It’s not even possible to recreate your real look! It’s an abstraction! It’s a muppet!
Get it? No one looks like their avatar! No one !!!

    Fair enough!

“Most of the people I’ve met in Second Life *are* the genders they claim to be… and even better, women don’t get harassed from the moment they enter the (virtual) room to the moment they leave.”

I don’t use/play Second Life, so I can’t verify your statements but I strongly doubt this is true. Maybe your own anecdotical evidence, but anyone else’s mileage may vary.

Mike, you’re fighting a losing battle, because you’re on the wrong side. I’d also like to point out that you said MOST of the people you met in second life ARE the genders they claim to be. Anyway:

Would you try to make a character that looked exactly like you in, say, Oblivion? No? Because that would completely limit you to being human? Because that eliminates the point of having so much choice when making an avatar in the first place?

How about in a wrestling game? Do you make him look exactly like you, or do you make him look completely ridiculous? Yeah, I thought so.

Making a female avatar is not saying you’re female, just because people assume that doesn’t mean you have to conform to their assumptions and bend your own preferences to those assumptions.

  14. “When seeing someone for the first few minutes: No, it’s a very stupid advice to be 100% honest!”

Works for me 99% of the time.

“Get it? No one looks like their avatar! No one !!!”

There’s a difference between trying to make a close approximation of yourself, and choosing to present yourself as the opposite gender, with the weak reasoning that “If they don’t ask, I don’t have won’t tell them.”

“I’d also like to point out that you said MOST of the people you met in second life ARE the genders they claim to be. Anyway:”

Let me rephrase then. Those with a female avatar in Second Life that I’ve chatted did, in fact, turn out to be women.

“Would you try to make a character that looked exactly like you in, say, Oblivion? No?”

Actually, I do try my best to make my avatars in those games look myself, to the point where I’ll actually reduce the character muscle mass to something more realistic if the option is available to me. =P

“How about in a wrestling game?”

    I don’t play wrestling games.

Regardless, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re using a social interaction tool to interact with real people, and presenting a false image. Hey, if a guy wants to be a woman, that’s his choice. I just wouldn’t care for someone that wouldn’t openly admit of their own accord.

  15. Gamoc said:

So…you just want people to wander around saying ‘I’m a man, I’m a man’ all the time?

  16. “So…you just want people to wander around saying ‘I’m a man, I’m a man’ all the time?”

No, I’d just rather chat with someone in there who has the decency to present themselves as who they are. And so far, it’s been little but hormonally challenged males gyratiing their virtual female hips at people.

You know, I’ve only ever seen that happening once. Ever. And I go on Home a lot.
