MGS packs for LBP on December 23
The PS Blog’s confirmed the December 23 arrival of Metal Gear Solid level packs for LittleBigPlanet, and very sweet they look too.
Blurb:
Metal Gear Solid Premium Costume Pack
You’ve seen Solid Snake, but have you seen the rest of the cast? (well, ok…maybe you have… ) Meryl Silverburgh, Screaming Mantis & Raiden each have their own costumes from the MGS world. Get all 4 characters for the price of 3 at $5.99 on the PS Store, or pick your favorite and buy it individually for $1.99.
Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack
Now that you know about our Festive Level Pack, which fills your Pop-it tool with a ton of “Create” materials, objects and stickers, our Premium Level Packs introduce that and a whole lot more.
This is American, obviously. Just checking to see if the same applies to Europe.

These are getting pretty tiresome now. I didn’t think I could ever get bored of Sackboy, but since the release he just seems like a cheap and cynical marketing ploy rather than the super-cute-n-cuddly indie-style game character he used to be.

I’m sold. Sad I know.
Now I can finally make my ‘Its just a box’ level.

That felt a bit forced though, Blerk. It read a bit like: Man, I have to pay attention to every bit of Sackboy premium DLC so I can get sick of it more quickly and then reminisce about how Sackboy isn’t a brave figure of indie gaming any more.
It just seemed like the most narrow road to the popularist view, without even considering overriding factors like … oh, you know, ignoring the paid for DLC and just having fun with the game as it was provided (and maybe grabbing some free DLC too, Santa Sackboy is pretty fun).
They are milking it, absolutely. But that’s what companies do. Every coompany. And nearly every bit of paid-for DLC. Ever. Soulless milking. Some forms of DLC are more harmless than others (visual customisations over cutting chunks out of a game and selling them back as piecemeal, for example), but it’s all pretty damned soulless. But that’s a problem with DLC, and the cynicism of the entire console market as a whole, rather than a problem with LBP.
So … yeah, why does Esha dislike DLC? I think we touched on it here, a bit, maybe? But LBP needn’t be blamed for what’s a broken system overall.
Milking customers with premium DLC is bad, I get it. But I don’t think singling out one game and saying the game is bad because of it, using the game as an example of why DLC is bad is fine, but it’s not fair to brown-nose the game because of the aforementioned broken system, which affects most games these days.

How much is the level pack? The sackboys are an utter rip off, but I’m quite interested in the level pack if priced right.
Edit – Just looked it up: $5.99. As long as the currency conversion is right, sold.

I just have a bit of a problem with the Sackboy ‘lookalikes’. In my mind, LBP was supposed to be all about user-generated content – you made your own stuff, did it your way, no two users having the same set-up, etc. I was expecting people to all make their own Sackboys. Encouraging everyone to use the same Sackboy (and it’s a thinly-veiled advert for another game to boot) just seems to be the complete opposite of what I thought LBP would be about.

You can’t complain too much about DLC. This was inevitable.
How many man-hours does it take to knock together a Snake outfit and upload it to the store? Not many I’ll bet. People will buy it in their thousands (especially with something iconic as Snake) without even thinking twice about it.
DLC like this is very, very easy money and now the floodgates have been opened with the likes of LBP and the ‘buy your way to victory’ EA titles it’ll become the norm.
Personally I like the LBP content. With a game like LBP its essentially like buying another box of Lego to add to your collection. It adds more to your game in the long run than a mere extra level.
Theres a lot of DLC out there that takes the piss (BF 2142 ‘expansions’ anyone?) but ultimately 99% is purely optional and it won’t detract from your enjoyment if you don’t have it, though it does tap into your OCD side which means instabucks for whoever put it up there.

Sorry but I seriously think this is the best DLC I’ve ever seen in any game.
$5.99 for the most awesome set of new levels, trophies, stickers, decorations, objects, materials, a new freaking power-up and all executed to near perfection. Especially that amazing trailer for it.
I only hope that they manage to keep it up because it’s going to take alot to top this.
So good.

Yeah, BP has awesome DLC.
I’m all for DLC. And episodic gaming. Episodic gaming. Ahh, that’d be lovely.

So is the MGS Premium Level Pack actually a level pack or is it a content pack like the Christmas one? Stickers, objects and materials. I think it is becoming clear why they removed importing pictures from your HD as stickers though eh?
As for Sackboy costumes and individuality Blerk – you don’t have to where all these bits at once, the costumes come in bits (moustache, eye patch, clothes, belt etc.) – so it just adds to the variety.
