True Riddick sequel on the way, “a couple of years out”
Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios sees upcoming Riddick title Assault on Dark Athena as an “episodic expansion”, and has confirmed that work on a true sequel to Escape from Butcher Bay is now underway.
Speaking to Eurogamer at Atari Live in London, head of production Ian Stevens said: “We’ve really tried to maintain that core experience [of the original] and embellish it for Assault on Dark Athena, which we see very much as an episodic expansion of Escape From Butcher Bay.
“We’re not calling it a sequel; we’ve got a sequel in mind that’s a couple of years out if you guys want it, and you like this and you tell us you want more.”

Does anyone even still remember who Riddick is today? Never mind in two years time.

The first game was brilliant you heretic. Who cares about the crappy movies as long as the games are great?

I quite liked Pitch Black. But Chronicles was dog-shit. I never played the game, so I can’t comment.
What I mean is, without a new film to reboot interest in the franchise, is there even any point doing more games? Of course, there might be another film in the pipeline. But I hope not.

The original game is brilliant, and still ahead of its time in terms of successfully blending different genres together in an amazingly convincing environment. This game is at least guaranteed the sales from everyone that played the first one.
Plenty of games are successful without being based on a film, I’m hoping that the next Riddick is at least as good as the first game and that the series can continue as a game franchise regardless of the fact that it originally started as a movie franchise.

Butcher’s Bay was nothing like the Chronicles movie (awful stuff idd), there weren’t that many sci-fi/fantasy elements in the game actually. It was just gritty and… yes, ‘cool’. For any game starring Xzibit and Vin Diesel that’s quite a feat. There’s a lot more great voice talent in it than them.
Still, a very rare case of a great game based on a partially shit movie universe idd.

Pitch Black was a great film and Chronicles of Riddick was pretty damn good as well. The game was also great. you’re damn right they better make another film and, after this upcoming game, another game! Vin Diesel is the goddamn man

@Blerk: the first Riddick game (and this expansion) has nothing to do with the film ‘Chronicles of Riddick’.Story-wise it’s a prequel to Pitch Black, the entire game takes place in the prison mentioned in that movie.
