White Knight Chronicles gets 29/40 in Famitsu

Famitsu’s given up a meagre 29/40 score for White Knight Chronicles, as relayed by NeoGAF.

The review summary through there doesn’t make it sound like the most thrilling thing in the world. Apparently is has patch-worthy chat issues and is “the same” a every other Level-5 RPG in that “sadness befalls the land”.

Still. It looks pretty. The Level-5 RPG releases in Japan on Christmas Day. No date for the West as yet.

Oh dear. A sub-30 score from Famitsu is really quite poor, the equivalent of a 5 or 6. :-(

Guess they didn’t book enough advertising. :-D

Not sure what this means. Rogue Galaxy got a whopper of a score if I recall and I thought the game was pretty to look at but no fun.

Then again, I think 99% of Level 5 are now churning out Professor Layton spinoffs. Thank heavens. I was running out of mini-puzzlegame-collections and brainteasers on my DS. Phew!

Ouch, this was Sony’s big hope for Japan. That’s gonna hurt!

  4. Blerk said:

Well, quite – if they give middling games like Rogue Galaxy and Last Remnant really high scores, 29 for WKC suddenly doesn’t seem quite so hot.

OMG, the PS3 really is shit isn’t it?

I like to think you have that set up as a macro. :-D

I ‘m sure it’s the same “sadness”-wise. But gameplay-wise it looks very good.

I get the idea we might be losing quite a lot in the translation, there.

Well fuck a duck. If Last Remnant got 38/40, this game must be complete and utter shite. What a disappointment. Interested to see what Western journo’s make of it.

It’s probably worth recalling here that Famitsu gave the delightful Haze a respectable 34/40. Hmmmmm.

  11. Psychotext said:

Famitsu really don’t have a clue about FPS games though. The Haze score didn’t surprise me in the least bit.

  12. dirigiblebill said:

    True enough, I suppose.

WKC does look quite generic, and Level 5 doesn’t have the best pedigree when it comes to combat systems – “button-mashy but entertaining” seems to be the most they can muster.

Would be interesting to read the whole review. Anybody care to sidle in with a transcript?

JinTypeNoir’s got one on the EG thread.

Judging from The Last Remnant’s score, I’m not sure how in-tune Famitsu is with what I like. They gave Nintendogs a high score, didn’t they, like a 40/40? Ridiculous!

All this low score means is Famitsu didn’t receive a nice check along with their review copies :) .

  15. dirigiblebill said:

Ta for that Blerk. Anybody know what they gave Valkyria Chronicles?

  16. Blerk said:

    34/40 – 8, 8, 9, 9.

    OMG TEH NON-PLATFORM-BIAS1!

Looks like the Sony fanboys last great hope is gonna fail them.

What do you think about abiogenesis?

    Agree with the theory?

I wish I could stick 599USD and theevilaires in a room and let them doomspoon each other to death.

    @ 599USD

You certainly cost a pretty sum for someone who can’t punctuate.

@ 599USD “Looks like the Sony fanboys last great hope is gonna fail them.”

Surely that would be Killzone2 or Heavy Rain or MAG or GOW3 or Infamous or GT5 or The Agency or Tears of Blood or yadayadayada…
