Particularly as the iPhone is the only big gaming device which doesn't use the universal power symbol too.

It was far from an unreasonable assumption to make though. I can't believe they chose that shade of green at random.

Putting my foil hat on for a moment, I'd even go so far as to say they were deliberately messing with us. They must have known that the combination of the colour and prominent power button would lead people to think 360 port, and it probably gave the story a bit more of a spot light than a simple iPhone reveal.

The best games on the iPhone are those which don't use the motion sensor but just rely on the screen. You can buy great puzzle games which get padded and fluffed to a full release on the DS for 59p.

If you just look at the big tilt games you are making the same sort of mistakes Sony did with the PSP - look at the more suitable titles for a handheld.

On my phone I've got:
MahJong tile matching game with a ton of options - < £2
Tile racing game - free
Music game - free
Puzzle Quest like puzzler - free
Puzzle Pack - 15 well implemented puzzlers - £3
Risk clone - free
Solitaire - £1
Poker - £2
Crosswords - £3
Jelly Car - free
Tangrams - free
Rogue (rpg) - free

Stuff like the Crossword thing is fantastic because it's an endless supply of great crosswords. It links in to newspaper website and downloads the crossword and solution. An initial outlay of £3 and you get the Independent crosswords for life.

It's got its strengths and weaknesses, and it's never gong to make either PSP or DS redundant due to it's limited controls. That said, I've spent more time with Field Runners than most PSP or DS games, and racing games are surprisingly competent on it.

The App store is very smart though, and with most games costing less than 5 pounds, it's so tempting to just buy a quick game when you're bored.

I'd be very surprised if this isn't going to be the future of gaming.

The best game I've ever played on the iPhone is Fifteen (The one where you have to slide the numbered blocks into the correct order from 1 to 15).

Bubble Breaker would probably work really well on it though.

I bought an iPod Touch. It's basically a disaster for gaming. Imagine having no choice but to control your games with SixAxis motion 'controls' - it's THAT bad.

Thankfully at least iPhone devs have yet to unleash the full horror of the 'walk along the tightrope' motion sensor mechanic so beloved of PS3 titles circa 06/07.

You know, I do get the feeling that Apple has quietly snuck under Sony, MS and Nintendo, and is quietly re-inventing gaming. I don't know how some people can claim that Apple has done anything other than officially enter the games market.
