Are people really buying this shit?

It’s quite incredible. I would have thought the DLC for LBP would be more along the lines of cooler dev tools and stuff to bung in your maps. So far it’s all just “dress the Sackboy”. Shame.
DrDamn said:
Yeah because cooler dev tools and new bits to use are really easy to just chuck out. A little bit of perspective here maybe? It’s only been out just over a month. Every single week they have released free stuff along with the paid for content.

What?! Why so defensive? I didn’t say that Media Molecule should be chucking this stuff – new level pieces etc. – out on a weekly, even monthly basis. I said I would have thought DLC would have been of that nature – i.e. something more creative and following in the game’s trend than simply playing dress-up with your Sackboy.
There’s nothing wrong with Sackboy costumes, but it seems that’s all we’re getting atm., and I would have thought the DLC would have been more inspired. Maybe it will be in the future, I don’t know what has been promised. All I’m saying is, is that I hope the trend takes a different course soon.

They hinted that something else is coming sooner or later.

Well your comment was fairly negative, it used words like “shame” and “incredible”. The sort of stuff you wanted to see is a significant change and will take time – lots of stuff would need to be retested and it would need to go through certification etc. There is this stuff promised and coming but until it arrives it’s actually quite nice to see the dev supporting it with new stuff every week – even if it’s just a new costume.
They can’t win obviously, because if they did release new and whizzy stuff now there would be an army of people complaining that it should have been in the game from the start and they obviously held stuff back to maintain interest and I’ve gone and sold my copy now, wah, wah, wah.

most of it is free, i’ve got LBP for xmas, so hopefully all the good free stuff will still be on PSN at that time, i’ve also got the Kratos outfit code free from OPM, seen them on ebay for £10, don’t know what all that’s about

Well I don’t agree. Sometimes nothing is better than something.
But I didn’t know they said other stuff is on its way, so that’s good.

Seriously? Why?
morriss said:
Because I think that, in this case, it gives off the wrong impression. For example, if Epic gave away new Gears of War 2 Lancer skin colours every week, I would also think it was a bit cheap and arbitrary. I’d rather Media Molecule and/or Epic just get down to actually providing something of substance rather than trying to flog me Marcus Fenix in a bikini for a few quid in amongst a free Gold Lancer skin.
That’s why.
DrDamn said:
Customising your sackboy is a non-insignificant part of the game in LBP – customising your lancer isn’t. I like having new costumes and so do a lot of other people. See comment on Kratos costumes going for £10 on eBay. As long as other stuff is coming then free stuff in the mean time is only a good thing.

People go ga-ga for pointless customisation. Look at how popular mobile-phone covers were and how popular ringtones and wallpapers are. There’s a market for it if your product happens to reach the sort of people that are susceptible to it.
Player customisation is deeply entrenched in LBP and pimped from the first level onwards. My wife has re-played loads of levels simply to acquire decorations, stickers and outfits that had been teasing her from previous efforts. She won’t go onto new levels until she’s completely exhausted earlier ones.
She’s not the type to pay for designer this or that but there’s a load of people out there who will. Just like there’s people out there that’ll pay for intrinsically worthless theme-packs, ringtones, IKEA themed addons for The Sims and heaps of other stuff that has been happening on many varied platforms for quite a few years now.
Which suggests it’s something that works.

Oh yes, indeed, it works a treat. That was never the issue, well never my issue, really. I was simply saying that I found that the current bombardment of Sackboy in “costume-x” was wearing a little thin and hopefully something of more substance was on the way. All imo, of course.

Fair enough moz. I can’t say I agree – I’m happy to get bits and pieces for anything anytime. I never buy things day one though, so maybe I tend to just see lots of stuff for something rather than one new item.
“Marcus Fenix in a bikini for a few quid”
You’d love that, you big liar.

hehe. I had to readjust my trousers as I wrote it.

How sad is it that, despite knowing how stupidly over-priced these are, I still want to buy them?
