residentevil518.jpg

The Resident Evil 5 demo is now available for download for Live users in Japan.

The taster’s a co-op affair, but we’re waiting to see what’s specifically included.

Update: Here’s the Japanese XBLM product page, should you care.

I’m on it. If I could fucking find it.

  2. Blerk said:

So I can set up a Japanese account and download this, right?

  3. patlike said:

Mike’s just said you need a Japanese gold Live account to get it.

  4. Blerk said:

    Cock!

  5. morriss said:

I’m going to try a 48 hour, but I don’t think they work.

*They do work, just need to make completely new account but I’ve found out I don’t have a 48 hour spare, and I can’t be arsed to create a new Japanese account.

Oh, and if ur fick like me, it’s called Biohazard in Japan. (Can’t believe I forget that!!)

  6. Blerk said:

That was an exclamation of disappointment ‘cock’ rather than a name-calling ‘cock’, by the way. :-D

Why can’t I send you a Live friends request, morriss? Don’t you love me any more?

  7. morriss said:

My friends list is full. I’ll clear out some dregs later. ;)

  8. Blerk said:

    To add more dregs? :-D

  9. pleasant_cabbage said:

Any word on a potential pop up date for this in Europe?

  10. Esha said:

I think it’s safe to predict that morriss’ adventures in Live Japan Land is going to be more entertaining than morriss’ impressions of RE5 (should that actually ever happen).

  11. morriss said:

My impressions of Resi 5 are already on the site!! Do a search from the Expo!

Anyway, BLERK!! If you can be arsed to create a Japanese account – and you haven’t already got more than two accounts on your 360 – then you get a free 1 month sub and you’re laughing.

  12. Whizzo said:

I hope there’s an invert axis option in the demo when it turns up for us, I had a lot of trouble when I was playing it at EG Expo and I couldn’t find a setting to change it.

  13. morriss said:

Ha! I’m downloading it now! Maybe it’s because I transferred my old accounts to a new console but I just got a 1 month Gold trial on a new account! \o/

  14. Gekidami said:

I though MS banned accounts with IP’s that didnt match the regions they were said to be in?

  15. Esha said:

Sorry morriss, I meant your impressions of the co-op play in the demo, rather than impressions period. It wasn’t my intent to offend.

But still, this has been funny to watch.

And I really hope MS aren’t foolhardy enough to ban people for something like that. That’s something that Sony allows with the PS3 as a given, after all. It’d be a great way to drive customers from one console to the other.

  16. Gekidami said:

Well i’m trying to make a Japanese account, but aparently ‘Xbox Live inscriptions arnt avaliable at this time…’

  17. morriss said:

    Esha: no offence taken! :)

And Blerk, I’ve delete some dirge from my FL so I now await for request! ;)

  18. morriss said:

    Whizzo, there is.

  19. morriss said:

Someone download this and add me: runnersdialzero. Then we can do the levels co-op, innit.

  20. Gekidami said:

I can get up to the TOS, and from there it just wont load it up, maybe the servers are under strain or something.

  21. Whizzo said:

Good news on the inversion front! I was pretty sure there’d have to be one but it’s nice to have confirmation.

  22. Blerk said:

Live’s a bag of shite at the minute. I can’t even log in on the web site.

  23. morriss said:

I must’ve been well lucky. Just been playing it now. It’s what was featured at the Expo. Same thing. Nicer to be able to have a proper sit down with it though. Also, co-op could be proper awesome.

  24. Gekidami said:

Indeed Blerk, i just got DC’ed from Live to boot, i’m connected to the internet but Live isnt having it.

  25. Blerk said:

Nelson said something about scheduled maintenance at 2am PST. Is it 2am PST, perchance?

  26. Gekidami said:

Its just past 4am in PST.

  27. Blerk said:

Well that’s that theory down the pan, then. Unless this is ‘unscheduled maintenance’ as a result of the ’scheduled maintenance’ going tits up. Like it always does. :-D

  28. Gekidami said:

Well i’m connected to Live again, but now i’m getting the ‘Unavailable inscriptions’ and never loaded TOS BS again.

  29. Gekidami said:

I give up, i’ve tried about 40 times now and it isnt working, i guess i’ll give it some time.

  30. Blerk said:

I still can’t log in to the web site. I think it’s broked.

  31. anasui said:

    downloading it right now

  32. Psychotext said:

So can you get this in UK land yet? (Hmm… that link is still not gone)

  33. morriss said:

    Next year for Europe, innit.

I’m a little mixed about the demo.

I gave it my first playthrough yesterday and walked away pretty unimpressed. Couldn’t get to grips with any of the six dozen (slight exageration on my part) control types. None of them felt “comfortable” to me, i’m happy to think at the moment that this is the first time i’ve played a Resident Evil title on the 360 controller…i happen to think it’ll feel more natural on the PS3 pad when the time comes.

Either way, found myself dying a ton of times and not being impressed in the slightest with the game i was playing. The real time item selection is a huge let down, it doesn’t even come close to how good Dead Space managed to make real time item selection. It never worked in Resident Evil: Outbreak, it worked so well in Dead Space, so why are Capcom so intent on pitching their tent on the middleground?

Anyway, went back to it tonight, and i’m much more impressed, but still have my doubts. Sheva’s AI is fine, perfectly capable, but is no doubt likely to add fuel to the fire that RE4 begun (yeah, why couldn’t that little girl handle herself in such a torrid environment? ).

The control scheme i’ve stuck with now is the “action” default, just needed to embrace the Gears-esque controls for what is essentially Resi 4 HD, it wasn’t a hardship really when i’d gotten in the mood.

    So…

Resident Evil 5 to me, looks like it’s going to be a very good game. That’s it. I personally don’t feel the game has evolved enough from Resident Evil 4 to elevate it any higher than it being a very good game. Weapon damage not showing up on enemies, enemy AI disappearing in front of your eyes, these all might’ve been understandable, and acceptable shortcuts for previous generations, but it just doesn’t cut it for me anymore.

At the moment, i see sales being high, but i don’t see it receiving a critical reception anything close to likes that Resi 4 received. If anything, i’m sorta hoping that Capcom give the game a few extra months in development once they’ve taken on some feedback for the demo.
