Konami teases green “A Next Metal Gear” message
Konami’s posted a teaser site showing some symbols and the words “a next Metal Gear is…”
That’s it. There’s a bit of an animation. Green? Xbox green?
Kojima’s already hinted that his next game will be announced next year, possibly at TGS 09.

Dammit. I’m selling a 360 and buying a PS3, and of course MGS4 and Kojima games are a major factor in this. If he comes out with an exclusive Metal Gear 360 I’m going to be quite angry -___- That led is identical to Xbox 360 one’s.

Yeah in the Avatars thing in the NXE, there’s a T-Shirt with the self same power symbol you can wear.

Actually I’ve been told that symbol is equally present on PS3…And when powered, it’s green. A little less to worry, for now at least.

The 360 power symbol lights up green. The PS3′s doesn’t, an LED infront of the symbol lights up.
But then what’s the first symbol? “i”?? What might *that* represent?
DSi?

It’s a universal power symbol – it’s on everything. Green is a little telling though.
Incidentally on the 360 the symbol is only that way up when the machine is upright.

How about a new MS handheld – iXbox.
Will run MGS4 and will get around the exclusivity deal Sony have by being released on a handheld and not the 360

I own a PS3 and when MGS came out i was very excited.
In the end i didn’t even complete it because the ‘game’ is tosh so by all means let it get ported to Xbox so they can experience massive disappointment too.

It’s a remake of Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 for the Xbox 360.

Okay, fuck RE5 or KZ2, these are the games to have for 09.

Huh. Do they actually want them? Won’t most 360 owners have played these already? Surely a new bore-athon would be more appropriate?

Hang about. Most 360 owners have been dismissing the earlier Metal Gear Solid games as not really worth playing for most of the last 18 month. Surely they’re not going to give a damn for these games just because they pop up on their system years after the originals were released?

Like said above but if it was real, no, I wouldnt be. I am a diehard Metal Gear fanatic and this would be much better then both combined (and thats rich ocnsidering the timing of this as I am downloading the RE5 demo and I sneakingly got the Killzone 2 beta last night)

Fake press releases aside, I am inclined to think it’s a continuation of the ACiD series, which would explain the i.

If I’m honest, the most likely scenario is the most obvious one: MGS4 360. I’d be surprised if it was anything else, however likely.

Yes indeed, we think alike!
I know that MGS4 for the 360 is probably really quite desired (even if it was amazingly boring, pretty, but boring), but I’m actually hoping it’s ACiD. Truth be told, ACiD is more interesting than MGS4. :p

Indeed, it would be very cool but how much would have to be cut out tho? It packed the Blue-Ray close to full.

It’s “A next metal gear” though, not a previous one.
Hilarious how much people read into that little rebus, especially on n4g, as usual.

Acid is a good call.
And “Metal Gear” is not precisely the same as “Metal Gear Solid” as pedants of the series will appreciate.

It only filled the bluray up because the audio was completely uncompressed.
And it was rubbish.

“It only filled the bluray up because the audio was completely uncompressed”
Can you even cite a source for that? :/
I seem to remember Hideo himself saying that the textures were too large for the disc, and that he was dissatisfied with the capacity of Blu-ray because he couldn’t put photo-realistic textures into the game, and the texture sizes had to be chopped down to just barely fit on the disc.
I’ll see if I can find that quote…
Edit: I can’t come across that now, I might have read it in OPM. I remember one source pressed him on exactly which resource was too big for the Blu-ray, and his answer was something like the above. I might be wrong though, and I did a lot of searching, but all I could find was that Kojima said that the Blu-ray was too small (no reason given) and they had to decide what to compress.

Psychotext

It didn’t fill the disc anyway, and the audio isn’t uncompressed. We’ve done this to death a number of times.

I doubt it, some of the texturework was of an uncomfortably low resolution, though I might be completely wrong. MGS is really not a series for me, I’ve tried to love each and every one of them, but it’s just not happening.
@psychotext – yeah, best not go through it all again. It’s a fine entry in the metal gear solid series, love it or otherwise.

I’m not a graphics programmer (thank god)… but wouldn’t the amount of memory on the PS3 be a bigger issue with regard to large textures than the amount of space on the blu-ray?
#45
Morrius
05/12/08, 12:03 pm
The PS3 only has to cache the relevant textures for what it’s rendering, whereas the blu-ray would have to hold every single texture the game uses, ready to be cached. Different definitions of memory.
Anyway. I’m interested to see if this does pan out to be some kind of 360 release.

Hmm … you’re probably right, PT. I don’t have enough to say either way, so I apologise for bringing it up.
I just took umbrage at the way Morrius’s complaint was formed, I suppose. I may be a bit bored by MGS, but it was a technical marvel, and something for Kojima and his team to be proud of. The complaint made them sound incompetent, so I chimed in defensively.

It was a technical marvel in many ways. I don’t think it was a very good game though. Still, I liked the parallel between Snakes acceptance of his increasing irrelevance, and the lessened importance of Japanese game development.

Yes Blerk, I spent a lot of time correcting people’s unfamiliarity with game textures, compression, compression artefacts, rendering and whatnot last time this topic was raised in mock authoritative tones.
And if anyone had paid the slightest bit of attention they’d have appreciated the need for repeated textures of varying (L)evels (O)f (D)etail to be stored on the disc. LODding is invisible to most people when its done properly but it’s significant use of disc space whether you’re aware of its benefits and presence or not.
Anyway, I’ve decided that if the last symbol in the cryptic image was in red there’d be no mystery whatsoever.
