PS3 Firmware 2.53 available now

ps3a2.jpg

Sony’s released Firmware 2.53 for PS3: we’re downloading as we type.

The update caused a bit of a kerfuffle last week with what appears to have been an erroneous post from SCEA and some good old gun-jumping from the internet, but it’s there now. So relax.

The software gives full-screen Flash support to your machine, and “Live movie (using RTMP format) playability,” according to this US PS Blog post.

Just downloaded and installed. Can’t see any major improvements.

Dunno if it’s coincidence but it appears BBC have updated the iPlayer site to work with PS3. Going to bbc.co.uk/iplayer with the browser redirects you to bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen, which works very well with the PS3 and even allows access to the full Listen Again library

I wish iPlayer was a Europe-wide service. I totally understand why it isn’t, I just wish it was. :(

I can’t complain, but I also can’t bring myself to care. Seriously, if web-browsing on my PS3 was that important to me, I would just install Linux on the darn thing.

Just installed it and TBH I can’t see any difference at all. No full screen and most youtube clips are refusing to play apart from the sound you just get a black screen?
