GAME sales up 28%
GAME’s released an interim management statement with a trading update for the 44 weeks to the end of November, with news that sales are up 27.4 percent for the period, while like-for-like sales were up 11.2 percent.
“To date, our customers’ spending patterns have remained relatively resilient considering the challenges in the wider economy,” noted the statement. “Our previous guidance is unchanged and the Board remains confident of a successful outcome for the year.”
GAME will publish its Christmas sales figures on January 13.

Unbelievable how noone’s got any money, there’s a fucking huge recession going on, and people keep buying games.

I hate GAME, haven’t bought anything from there in about 4 years, the staff at my local shop are useless, biased idiots. I went in to have a look recently, i was stood in front of the PS3 section looking at MGS4, when the assistant came over telling me I should get a 360, they had an offer on, trade in your 60gig 360 and get a 60 gig 360 plus gears 1 and 2 for £149, why the fuck would you do that, it might just be me but it really makes my blood boil. I prefer shopping online for my games, better choice and much cheaper. rant over.

sennasnit – I agree with you, online shopping (especially play.com) is awesome and much better. I do occasionally look in the 3 game shops where I live in Reading – 2 GAMEs and 1 Gamestation – and Gamestation is much better.
Last time I went in there a couple of weeks ago a worker there was advising a guy who wanted a 360 combo deal and he said that at the time, the deals were all trying to push the new games that had just come out (such as Fable 2) and he recommended he try online first at play.com and other websites and/or go to other stores nearby such as GAME, HMV and Zavvi.
Sure it’s not amazing advice that’s pretty much common sense – but most parents buying for kids may not yet have realised the internet wins most of the time for shopping (in my opinion). And for this to come from someone working at gamestation suggesting they shop elsewhere to get what’s best for them, the consumer/potential customer – well, I thought that was pretty darn nice
(Maybe not all employees at gamestation are that nice though, I dunno

The irony of which is that Gamestation is part of the GAME empire anyway.

I’ve never been advised to get anything anywhere at either Game or Gamestation, and I use both (they’re very close to each other where I live).
And yeah, Game bought Gamestation last year.
