The Witcher is really good.

I'm just ... not sure about this though, if anyone could see it from my point of view. It just seems like a bit of a cash-in on people who don't have access to a gaming PC.

1. They're going with a new engine, and this worries me. The PC version used the Bioware Aurora engine, and whilst it might not have been the most graphically superlative engine around, it was amazingly powerful when it came to branching-dialogue, RPG quests, and so on. I can't help but wonder why the console version would need a new engine, and it makes me wonder whether it'll be a watered down, simplified version of the PC game. Plus, it's all too likely that the PC mods that'll arise from the Djinn adventure creation kit thingy won't be playable on this new engine (as mods usually don't sit well with consoles).

2. They said that they're going to go with a new combat system which will be designed to take advantage of the strengths of current generation consoles. This worries me too. The combat of the PC game was very cerebral, as Bioware-based games usually are. Are they going to end up removing parts of the stats system to accomodate a more action-oriented system of play? If so, then that really kills part of what The Witcher is. A Witcher is borne potential, and most of that potential comes out in how each player customises their statistics and skills.

3. It seems to be exactly the same plot and such of the PC version, as I understand it. This will likely lead to comparisons, and in that case I can't help but wonder if it won't be a bit of a let down. If they'd gone with a new plot (perhaps spun-off the one in the PC release) then it would be a worthwhile purchase for those who already have the PC game, and therefore comparisons probably wouldn't be quite so ubiquitous post game release.

These three points are what worries me in regards to this news. I really hope the console version can somehow be good despite all this, plus I like CD Projekt and I want to trust them, but there seem to be hints that this may not be as great as it could be.
