EA demands apology over German “pig” comment

pig.jpg

EA’s taken umbrage at the fact German anti-games woman Regina Pfeiffer – sister of the head of Lower Saxony’s Criminological Research Institute (KFN) and outspoken critic of violent videogames, Christian Pfeiffer – described it as “that pig of a company.”

Pfeiffer made the remark in relation to the fact she can’t sue EA as it isn’t German, speaking at the Computer Game and Violence conference in Munich.

“Should Mrs Regina Pfeiffer have actually lost her composure to the point of describing Electronic Arts as being a ‘a pig of a company’, then I can only recommend that she apologises in full – at least, [she should] if she wishes to be taken seriously again in the future,” EA Germany’s PR chief Martin Lorber told Golem.de.

What a to-do. Thanks, Gamer.tm.

I like pigs. Pigs are cool. You can turn them into bacon and sausages and pork chops and stuff.

I remember my German teacher at school explaining to us how schweinhund was a proper insult in Germany. A “Your mothers a syphilis infested town bike and I piss on her grave” level insult. I gained a new appreciation for the subtleties of translation that day.

“Pfeiffer made the remark in relation to the fact she can’t sue EA as it isn’t German”

She can sue them, surely? Just not in a German court. or is her problem that a US court is less likely to favour the cencorship-heavy, State-knows-best attitude she’s looking for?

Don’t be ridiculous, Blerk. No such single animal exists – what is this, some kind of delicious fantasy world?

It’s almost 2009. When is EA going to own up to the fact that it IS a pig of a company?

EA’s sheer greed aside, i dont see why a anti-violent videogames activist would call out EA, they dont exactly release the most gorey of stuff. Anyone know what she said exactly?

“they dont exactly release the most gorey of stuff”

Dead Space is pretty much the goriest game i’ve ever seen.

“Dead Space is pretty much the goriest game i’ve ever seen.”

and not only is Dead Space a big deal because it’s pretty much EA’s first M-rated game, but it’s not even sold in Germany.

The reason it’s probably not sold is Germany is *because* it’s an M-Rated game…
