New island confirmed for Fable II

fable27.jpg

Lionhead’s announced the Knothole Island DLC pack for Fable II, to release on December 12. From here:

The remote island of Knothole is dying, its golden sands and lush vegetation covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.

There are shots through there. There’s going to be free stuff too:

Free and premium downloaders will receive a shower of special gifts, including Knight’s Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more. You can also check your standing in over 50 new Leaderboards on Lionhead.com.

Cool, hopefully they’ll do a raft of bugfixes at the same time.

Hopefully. This is my Christmas present and a stable game would be nice.

This was linked on another forum: http://community.lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2008/11/07/3214613.aspx

It’s old, but they mention mid December or earlier for the patch.

When they made it out be OMG GOD SUPER BIG NEWS the other week, I was expecting more than 3 quests and some extra clothes. No doubt many of us were hoping they’d actually close off the story that they left hanging at the end.

This is worth 400, maybe… but 800? Fuck off. I’m a huge fan of the game, but that little is not worth that much.

This is great news! I wish such updates would be done for mobile phone gaming. I would love to see games get updates for the Motorola Krave. It’s got a crystal clear touch screen, so I’d be interested to see how gameplay is incorporated into those controls. Check it out online at motorola.com/krave for full details. It’s awesome. I’ve been a fan of this thing ever since I started working with Motorola.

How in the shit do people know how long those quests are going to be? And can thus judge the DLC’s worth?

Day one for me. Anything Fable 2-y gets my money. Lovely, lovely game.

Sold!

And I’d say this was pretty big news. A whole new island, new weapons, clothes, quests, coming in a few weeks? I’m THERE. I don’t get why people are cynical cunts all the time. Fuck you all. All of you.

Except morriss.

I still can’t believe how foolish people are with their money, are the lot of you that rich that you can just run around impulse buying without any knowledge as to what the content you’ll be getting is like?

“This is worth 400, maybe… but 800? Fuck off. I’m a huge fan of the game, but that little is not worth that much.”

I agree. I’m at least going to wait for a review or three before I even consider it, so I can find out how long the quests are. I’m not naive, I’m not simply going to buy that they’re ultra-long uber quests after the dainty efforts of Fable II, they could just as easily be quests which are completed in about 15 minutes each. That’s less than an hour’s play and some clothes for that amount.

Much more fun could be had than that with Weapon of Choice, which is half the price.

I’m sure The Faithful will be pleased with whatever scraps they get, regardless of how much they pay, but reviews are actually going to have to convince me first that the content is worth it. After the rabid fan nonsense has died down, we’ll likely see it for what it is.

With how eager some people are to throw away money on DLC though, I do wonder if this generation of consoles are really just well-designed brain washing devices designed to prey on the weak of will…

(Edited to add: I do wonder if there’s anyone out there foolhardy enough to call me a Sony fan because of this, but anyone who knows my track record is also aware that I’m equally as hard on all over-expensive and needless DLC. I was just as amazingly annoyed at the PS3 Bioshock DLC, which I also vilified.)

I’m not sure what your point is. People are just genuinely excited about additional content for their favourite games to the point that – yes – they are willing to pay £6.80 for it.

If the content is reviewed and offers the shockingly poor value for money that you suspect it will, doubtless they will change their minds and not buy it.

A whole new area, three missions with hopefully a couple of hours play or more, new items etc. for a total of a couple of pints. I’ve got no problem with paying it at all.

Esha just needs to relax a bit and not judge everybody all the time.
