FIFA 09 doesn’t include Welsh team, man is angry
According to this Wales Online piece, there is no Welsh football team in FIFA 09. Rather obviously, some Welsh people are a bit pissed off about it.
“In all seriousness you have to wonder how we are not in the game and yet New Zealand are,” said punter Noel Davies.
“In earlier versions of the game they used to have a Wales team. I imagine the market for this game in the UK is huge, so to ignore Wales is ridiculous. There are enough gaming members of the public in Wales. I find it really insulting.”
Baffling. Patch it, EA. Cymru am byth.

I was quite baffled by their absence, considering the rest of the UK is there.

I haven’t bought it… but yeah, I’d have been a little miffed at this.

See, this is why I prefer PES. I’ve had many many awesome games of a Wales vs Scotland with my mate so, well, if I can’t do that with FIFA, I’ll have to use the superior product.

Didn’t even know there was a Welsh team. Is it even a country?

I’m not from England, I didn’t know that Wales is its own country. Why should it have its own football team, isn’t that cheating? I mean other countries have one team that may or may not qualify for the World Cup, and yet the UK gets to send in three or four (or whatever) teams?

For anyone outside the UK who doesn’t know the history I suggest looking at Wikipedia, simply put we invented the game and how it was formalised so we’re a bit different to everywhere else.
Leaving out Wales in FIFA does seem a bit daft too, it’s not like all the players aren’t in the game already.

Pssh. Having lived there most of my life i’ll just say…GOOD!
I thought the rest of the world just viewed Wales as a small town in England anyway haha

@Smartypants
Conversely, the talent is more spread out and not in 1 strong place this way… the UK would probably have a better chance if we were 1 team.
This same thing causes problems. In the Olympics the UK couldn’t participate in the football because there’s no ‘Great Britain’ team, and they wouldn’t allow an English, Scottish or Welsh team.

That’s so depressingly true, it’s actually the #1 thing that irritates me when it comes to ignorant foreigners.
Wales, that’s in England, isn’t it?
What? No, you stupid sod, it isn’t. You can’t watch a primate scream at ominously coloured patches of dirt on a rock and call that an education in geography, you know? Pop-quiz: Where do you think Scotland is? ON THE MOON?!
At least, that’s what happens inside my head. Instead I just have to smile and nod my head, that and envision that person’s death in a most visceral way within the space of my head, otherwise I think the amount of times I’ve been asked that would have driven me clinically and criminally insane.

FIFA has missed Wales out year after year. I remember reviewing something like the 2003 version and noting there was no Wales side. And gave it an extra mark because of it.

I just think it’s a bit silly that Esha refers to foreigners as ‘ignorant’ when they haven’t heard of Wales or don’t know where it is exactly. Keep in mind that ‘England’ means ‘UK’ in a lot of other languages, it’s therefore a bit presumptuous to assume that everybody knows or realises that native speakers call it ‘UK’ instead.

Joking aside, that is quite an oversight. They’re not exactly Italy or Brazil, but come on.
Maybe they didn’t get the licence or something? I seem to remember FIFA not having Holland one year because of that.

It’s the Netherlands, Holland is just a region.

Wales is in the UK. It’s a country. Like Scotland. It has a football team. They’re quite good sometimes. They beat Italy once. To leave them out of FIFA is tantamount to TREASON.
