I read here that most of the job cuts are in CS and QA. But there's a disturbing trend whereby a lot of gaming staff are being laid off. I only hope developers/publishers start taking steps to curb it. In-game advertising is sounding more attractive if it'll help folks keep their jobs and I'm all for it. Also making games shorter (around 6-8 hours) because with the time schedules most titles are given, most games come off with 'average' gameplay mechanics and have higher amounts of glitches.

I also hope to see some sort of banding together by those laid off. The Indie development scene is ready to take off with digital distribution widely available; just a lack of content is holding the Indie scene back.
Hope to see some folks step up to the challenge, because all this news about lay-offs, kinda discouraging for any new talent looking to get into the development scene.
