First Last Remnant reviews don’t bode well
The first Last Remnant reviews hit overnight, and it’s not looking good. Despite a 38/40 from Famitsu, the game’s now failed to break 7/10 on three major US sites.
We’re going to ask Square for an official comment on Monday as to what’s going on with UK reviews as, well, there aren’t any. The RPG came out on Thursday.
So far:

Had my eye on this, was wondering what was going on with the reviews. Guess I’ll give it a miss then.

I was pretty shocked at just how bad the frame-rate is.
Its meant to showing this dynamic huge battle and its like a slide-show at times. Something starts to move and then theres numbers on screen. Its that bad.
The voice acting is hilarious aswell.

I certainly did, im gonna make a habit it out of it. 1. To use up all the free Elite HD space and 2. The noise reduction makes a massive difference to me.
This is going to make me sound like an idiot but I pulled the disc out and check the back to make sure it was’nt covered in scratches. Then I remembered the entire thing was on the HD

Just noticed in the review it said 12Gb install. Does that mean you can’t install one disc at a time? That’s a pain in the arse if you have a 20Gb Drive.

Famitsu always do this. They always cream over any JRPG regardless of how good it is. Nobody with an ounce of common sense believed that it was really deserving of 38/40.
360 seems to be getting tons of JRPGs, but none of them are really any good. Even previews of Star Ocean 4 suggest it’s a bit crap.

I only have the first disc installed at the moment Spiral, its 6GB. Im not sure if you can say install the second disc and then delete the first though.
Don’t see why not.
ecu its not just JRPGs. Its Square games, they sell no matter what, I really was hoping for something a bit different from this game and the videos released supported that. I start the game and its a teenage male main character looking for his sister who might have a mysterious power. Urghghh.

Can’t think of a reason for it myself either, so hopefully not. I’ll probably get myself a bigger HDD at some point, but I’d rather not pay £90 for the pleasure.
Star Ocean previews have been a bit crap? That’s disappointing.

I’m hopeful for it too, but the preview in Edge this month was less than glowing..
“The epic premise is supported by the splendid name of its hero: Edge Maverick. Sadly, however, there’s not much of a maverick touch on show in the game’s fundamentals. … Unfortunately, there’s something a little compromised about the visual presentation. While they’re stylistically appealing, the environment textures in particular have a low-res, blocky feel. Weak floor textures are exacerbated by the lack of anything to break up their flat planes, with very little in the way of foliage, crates, lumps or bumps.
There are, in fact, a lot of similarities to Infinite Undiscovery, a slightly underpolished JRPG that had moments of charm.”
It does seem like it’ll be better than that, but it’s not looking as good as you might hope.

Oh… edge. Yeah, I’ve stopped paying any attention to their previews now. Plus I’m not sure about what they’re saying about the textures – every vid I’ve seen looks glorious.

Well, they’ve played it, so I’d tend to think they know better than what I’ve seen in videos. And Edge is about the most reliable source out there, one of the few publications that actually knows what they’re talking about.

The Last Remnant is quite decent, better then Infinite Undiscovery anyways.
Not the best RPG in the world but not the worst neither, I look forward to Star Ocean: The Last Hop now and hopefully, Final Fantasy XIII next year (Import or not)

Edge used to be reliable ecu… but that’s an entirely different topic of discussion.

That’s encouraging, at least. I’ll admit I liked Infinite Undiscovery, despite it flaws.
I’ll probably check this out on some time in the new year.
