Newell “extremely pleased” with L4D reception

left4dead91.jpg

Writing on Edge, Valve’s Gabe Newell’s said that the Left 4 Dead launch has gone pretty well. Like you hadn’t noticed.

“Left4Dead released this week, and I’m extremely pleased with the reception so far,” said the boss.

“We set out to create a first-person four-player game in which the action changes each time it’s played. We wanted to use procedural narrative to simulate stories because, in a multiplayer environment like this, we felt a more linear, scripted approach would not deliver in the same way.”

There’s a ton of stuff through there about story in first-person shooting. Knock yourself out. It’s Friday.

Is that him in the pic?

Gabe, you’ve really let yourself go.

“Gabe, you’ve really let yourself go.”

If that’s the price to pay for a fucking great game, so be it!

Let himself go? He looks a lot healthier in that picture than he usually does.

It’s weird how being overweight to almost any degree means you are open to ridicule without hindrance.

I think it’s petty and pathetic, tbh.

The interwebs like to justify any behaviour that would otherwise get your nose broken in “real life”, unfortunately.

I live in fear of getting my news broken.

I’d rather be overweight than a hypocrite with an internet grudge and a habitual troll who pisses in their own pool.

But, hey, that’s just me.

OK, I assume morriss is the hypocrite but who is the troll pissing in his own pool?

Some people just need to know when to take a hint.

You’ll never beat the internet.

Amateur psychologists will find it interesting to note that if you read my original statement it is ambiguous and mentions no specific attributes whatsoever. Rather like a textual rorshach ink-blot test.

morriss’ interpretation of the statement and assumption that it is about weight is a reflection of his standards and anxieties, not mine. In fact, it was morriss who introduced the topic of being overweight into the comments. No other commenter had mentioned it until he did. It’s quite telling behaviour.

Some people should look before they leap. Or at least think before they make some transparently pious statement.

Your consistent ability to call the kettle black never fails to astound us, Shatner <3

“Amateur psychologists will find it interesting to note that if you read my original statement it is ambiguous and mentions no specific attributes whatsoever. Rather like a textual rorshach ink-blot test.”

He thought about that all night last night, I reckon.

I like the assumption big Phil reckons my statement is somehow a response to him. I’m sure the amateur psychologists will find that level of conceitedness even more interesting, tbh.

Replying directly to people just to suggest how you don’t reply directly to people is a bit of an pwn goal, don’t you think?

Whoops!

Still, keep on with that personal trollin’ morriss, it’s what you do best.

Oh, and mikey, as usual you seem to want to dispute what is said but, as usual, you utterly fail to substantiate yourself. It’s big and clever to quote a phrase but it’s quite worthless when you prove yourself incapable of giving it meaning. Still, I’m sure you believe you made a clever and insightful observation and that the internet is a much better place for your input. GO YOU!

Not really since you actually directed your post at me, Shat. You know, like actually using my name.

Nice try though, baldy. :)

Another direct reply!
Another attempt to troll!

Amazing! You’re such an internet hero!

What’s not to understand? You said “morriss’ interpretation of the statement and assumption that it is about weight is a reflection of his standards and anxieties, not mine.” Which is you directing your little pop-psychology exercise at me. So I’m replying in kind.

I’m trolling either. You should ask your amateur friends as to what it means. What I’m doing is directly taking the piss out of you. That isn’t trolling.

Still, keep it up. We you know how you love to.

hehe. Taking the piss out of Shatner is like crack.

Still, p’raps you’re right. Time to kick the habit. Shame though. The highs were indeed high.

Oh, looks like you’re attempting to criticise someone based on physical appearance by your mature and cunning output.

Rather makes a mockery of your earlier pious effort nearer the top of the page when you hoped to make yourself look virtuous by criticising what you assumed was that same behaviour in others isn’t it?

You see, you internet-grudge-epenis mentality (yeah, you’re a 360 owner aren’t you? Thought so.) seem to drive you to making a lot of semantic cock-ups and makes you into a Microsoft sponsored hypocrite. And a troll.

But don’t take my word for it. Continue posting in your small minded way and show all the boys and girls I’m right. As you usually do.

You’ve got a 360 too, though, Phil. So Pat’s right: we must just love each other, really. My gamertag is runnersdialzero, I’ll add you later: koffdrop, right?

*hugs*

Heh, so you don’t deny your “360″ mentality, you just try the stunt of shifting focus.

I only add tags to my Partnernet account these days. Or people who can get a reasonably high score on Space Giraffe.
