Xbox 360 passes 7 million sales in Europe, in “fantastic place” against PS3
According to this MCV piece, Xbox 360 has passed the 7 million sales mark in Europe.
The machine has sold 2 million European units since June, thanks, said Microsoft, to the price cut and blanket marketing.
“We’re in a position now where we’ve sold over seven million consoles in EMEA, which puts us in a fantastic place versus PlayStation 3,” said Xbox Europe marketing boss David Gosen.
“It’s the combination of elements that put us ain a fantastically strong position. We have 360 degrees of entertainment. At the moment, momentum is fantastic, we’ve got real traction in all European markets.
“When you look at what we’ve got coming, just in the next three or four weeks, that gives us the confidence that this will be the best ever Christmas in the history of Xbox.”

The credit crunch might serve them well in Europe. Christmas should be interesting.

Should be a good xmas battle, they are a million behind the PS3 in europe, can they get this back?

I don’t think they can get a million back over the Christmas period, if that’s really how far behind they are. But keeping pace would be a significant gain for them over he… there. They’re still ahead in the UK, after all.
There’s not much software-wise to go now. Left 4 Dead, Lips, Last Remnant, You’re In The Movies… that’s about it, exclusive-wise.

“So long as we keep talking about our position behind the PS3 nobody will notice we never mention the Wii!”
Man, they didn’t even bother with the “HD” caveat.

There’s no way they’re a million behind in Europe. I expect it to be more or less equal by January unless MS have a really really good Xmas and Sony have an terrible one.
Either way that’a a good result for them and healthy competition is good in general.

Psycho told us the actual figures last week, but I’m buggered if I can find the story now.

Taking into consideration that the PS3 launched 1,5 years later than the 360 and still managed to sell more consoles is definitely NOT a “fantastic place” for the Xbox.

Also the 360 and PS3 sell around 90,000 each month, even with the xbox price drop, if they sell the same amounts it will never catch up. And with the 1.5 years head start i think that’s probably disapointing for MS.

Quiiick beat me to it, smallest Dog barks loudest. This reads more like damage control to me, rather than PR.

TBH software sales are much more indicative of who’s “winning” than hardware sales.

So it’s still Nintendo, then?

Imagine how much they would have sold if they marketed their product instead of blankets.

I nearly got swept up by the whole NXE thing and bought my second 360 today (my 360 is in Germany at the moment getting fixed)… I managed to resist… but what was I thinking!
I tell you… power of constant marketing all over the place… websites… tv… papers… radio.
360 marketing is an economy!

MS have done great with the PR with this update.
You’d think that it’s a new console the way everyones been going on, not a new way to display information

Everyone is a vast overstatement, it’s only those who visit sites like this or read game magazines. Anyone else will know hardly anything about it.

All this penis envy is making my dizzy.

Had enough chest-beating yet? Here’s some more.
That’s really very surprising, if true.

Well, at least that one is substantiated by some facts to back it up.

Yeah, the Nintendo data released recently which uses GFK / Chart Track showed that the 360 is currently outselling the PS3 in Europe. It also shows that the Wii is obliterating both of them.

And yet the Wii has little of substance to enjoy right now.
What’s the moral of the story?
Just enjoy your games. It doesn’t matter whose “winning”
