Comments on: Reggie: Third-parties don’t “get” Wii

I’m really not so sure that third parties are a problem, I think it’s that the Wii is confused about what it wants to be at the moment. It looks like the best options right now for the Wii are coming from independent/small developers. Whether the fault lies with Nintendo or not lies with one simple question: Are Nintendo doing anything to actually support these developers and encourage more independent/small developers to create titles for their console?

I actually find that its the third-party developers that make the most distinctive uses of the unique control systems of the Wii and DS.

Especially the DS.

Yeah, it’s kind of funny how some folk endlessly praise or bash a console manufacturer and give THEM credit or criticism when the issue lies with another party entirely.

I guess a lot of people just look at the biggest and most obvious target and leave it at that without ever giving much more thought to the situation.

He’s right though. Most people don’t know that different games are made by different publishers\developers. They buy the games that appeal to them and for the most part it’s the ones made by Nintendo. Of course the success of titles like Carnival Games shows that they will buy third party titles if they like the look of them.
