“Neat” is also used in other ways, more predominantly the US, where it can mean “very good” or “excellent”. I just read it as the more obvious “tidy” meaning.

I know that, DrDamn (“Well tonight we have Schopenhauer.” “That’s neat!”). I just thought the context suggested it was more likely the ordered meaning. And I can’t imagine Pat using the word in that sense.

I thought it was more of a flippant, “I don’t care,” remark.

Like let’s say you loathe football, and you’re reading out scores for someone. You could say, “Man U won 4-0, Arsenal won 2-0,” so that’s neat. i.e. “whatever”
