Call of Duty: World at War releases, reviews say thumbs up

Activision’s announced that Call of Duty: World at War has launched as planned, and the hive review mind of the internet have given it a pretty solid “yes”.

Apart from UK mag Play, which didn’t get on with the game’s “crass tone.” Can’t win them all.

We gave it 7/10. It’s good. But not that good.

I gave it 0 out of 10 because someone at the post office nicked my pre-ordered copy!

  3. So far, I’d give it 5/10.

But bear in mind, I have only played the first level and seen the start of the 2nd.

The start of the 2nd level I have to admit is a techincal example of what next gen consoles can do nowadays, simply great.

I gave it my heart, the cad.

Edge have given it 6/10 but their scores this issue are all over the place.

Resistance and Mirror’s Edge didn’t do too well, there.

  9. Resistance 2 is epic.

And thats just on my playtime with the closed multiplayer beta (Not the open beta, closed beta, back to when it was known as Girl with a Stick)

As for Mirror’s Edge, despite only playing the first two levels, it is simply amazing. Gonna play some more later after I do a couple of things over on my site and the new forums which we will open this week but simply, Edge thinks it quailty, not quantity for Mirror’s Edge.

Vice versa for me tbh, I’d take quantity over quailty anyday and this is just a breath of fresh air.

Nor did Banjo, Fallout 3 & Guitar Hero. Though Tomb Raider does well despite what I thought was a fairly atrocious demo.

What was wrong with Fallout 3?

  12. DrDamn said:

Maybe it was the PS3 version they reviewed? :)

  13. I could have got Fallout 3 this morning but I didn’t because of two things.

1 – I went to Game to trade my music games and got £80 out of it, better then Gamestop.

2 – Unlike GameStop where they don’t ID me, Game most likely would have.

Bah, need to save a big hitter for christmas anyways. And besides, I could trade in WaW next week for The Last Remanent next week and if thats not good, go for Resistance 2 :D

  14. patlike said:

DD – Ja. How do you mark down Guitar Hero? What can be wrong with it?

    *turmoil*

  15. Harry said:

World Tour has some charting problems Pat. It tends to be overcharted at the harder end, meaning that the charts tend to be created to make things ultra hard rather than naturally follow the music. And the campaign is pretty uninvolving too – especially compared to Rock Band.

Any chance you could add our CoD review to the list? (/cheeky)

Giz a link. You got my email?

    Double post, whoops

A 5 from Edge for Mirror’s Edge is rather absurd, a 6 for Resistance even more so.

M.E. nears classic quality at intervals, but falls down (literally har har) thanks to slightly borked implementation. R2 is pretty formulaic in places, but it’s hard to condemn it on this account when you’re getting so much for your moolah.
